I just moved to Cambridge and am looking to meet new friends. Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do with a good community atmosphere and people open to meeting new people? I'm open to ideas in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville. I'm into some sporty things like pickleball and pickup basketball, but also into board games, puzzles, live shows, making things, hiking but also down to try new things. I'm trying out the Esh Circus Training School and that's been fun, but I've found there's not a lot of chances to talk to people in classes or open gym time. Although, maybe I'm just doing it wrong or need to give it more time.

In the past, I've enjoyed rock climbing gyms where there were open gym hours and you could drop-in one or more times a week. There were lots of opportunities to meet folks and there were also other things to do at the gym like yoga classes or grab food/drink nearby so it was great for meeting people. I'm not as into rock climbing as I used to be but I was thinking about getting back into it since the rock gym felt like such a special place. Anyway, I was looking for activities or places that had a similar vibe:
-- social community
-- open space with accessible hours
-- (ideally) cheap admission or a monthly subscription
Some ideas I had so far:
-- PKL (indoor pickleball with a chill social atmosphere) that looked like they had similar vibe to what I enjoyed at the rock climbing gym
-- Maybe a makerspace with classes or community events?
-- Maybe a gym like the YMCA with pickup basketball

Open to other suggestions or thoughts!

If you’re a beer person you can go pull up at one of the local establishments (Cambridge Brewing, Lamplighter, Aeronaut, Remnant) and mix and mingle there. Most of those also have scheduled social nights for various activities, like trivia and whatnot.

Would you look at that? Someone made another where can i play pickup basketball thread. I took the time to search past threads for you, since we both know that you did not bother to do it. Now go and enjoy this video
