Honestly I don’t see any reason to ever pick 30 over 60

The graphics difference is almost never even close to good enough to warrant losing 60 fps, smoother gameplay is much more important to me than having the game look very slightly better

Hogwarts legacy is definitely worth for the 30 fps mode because performance mode looks dogshit

Well if i had to pick 60 obviously but i dont die when its 30, especially stable 30. When gta 5 launched on the xbox 360 and ps3 did you refuse to play it?

Honestly GTA 5 for old old gen still looks good and the online seemed to run smoother than that on base PS4 and Xbox one

I always been a console.player. The great majority of what I played up to the PS4 was at 30 fps. But sometimes, some games would run at 60 and I didnt even know why It felt so good to watch and play. The difference is inmmense, well worth it sacrificing quality.

Now that I have a PC, I simple rather escalate resolution or turn down effects than reducing fps.

30fps doesnt bother me, im a huge Zelda fan and the first 3D game to run at 60fps is SSHD and i never realy cared about it, the N64 games ran at 20 and that was just nasty but if a game caps the framerate at 30 i wont mind but if it lets me choose quality or performance i will always choose performance to get to 60fps.

Howdy-partner-- t1_j8o9jkc wrote

60 for competitive multiplayer games because you need it to be smooth. 30 for games that focus on graphics over fps. For example GOW Ragnarok fidelity mode

I play videogames since the 16-bit generation, although I had a Master System as my first console followed by a N64. Back in the 90s/early 2000, the consoles were underpowered, and we could see a FPS ranging from 60 FPS to 10-15 FPS in certain games, and honestly, I didn’t have much of problem because of this. The PS2/GameCube/Xbox/Dreamcast generation was much smoother with lot of titles running at fixed 30 or 60 FPS, and the PS3/Xbox 360 returned to unstable 20-25 FPS, although the fact that those consoles had a massive increase in graphics during this first HD era could be reasonable. But honestly, I had fun during all these eras (e.g: San Andreas used to run at <30 fps for instance) and the only place where I’d struggle to get a game running with acceptable FPS was the PC.

But it’s a bummer that games still have PS4/Xbox One graphics even if they are running at 60 FPS. I honestly would prefer to see a 30 FPS game with graphics from that Matrix Unreal Demo.

BlockSCBG t1_j8ofo26 wrote

I honestly dont care. I dont actually see the difference between the two unless im actually looking for differences. I just want to play good games, not games that have the "best graphics" or the "best framerates".

Excatly. If I did'nt have any other option to play that game then in 30fps, I wound't play it.

ISpitSaliva t1_j8o8dzl wrote

If there's a choice I choose 60fps or in case of competitive FPS above 60. Anything over 144fps is pleasing to the eye, but has diminishing returns reaction-wise and puts exponential strain on hardware.

30fps is absolutely playable for portability, power saving or if hardware can't do more. I can tolerate occasional dips to 20s for the same reasons

PC player exclusively for 10 years and mixed consoles/PC another 10 years.

Pacomatic t1_j8oka6x wrote

If I get 60 fps and don't lose much, then it's worth it. But take Apex on Switch for example. The game looks like trash, with what seems to be lowest settings, and if that wasn't enough, the resolution is so bad that I have a hard time seeing anything. And it's 30 FPS. In a case like that, I would totally take the 30, because 60 fps would mean lowering the settings even further. And at that point it'd in playable.

But since I've been a Switch player for a while, I don't mind having to run lowest settings + 30 FPS + 720p

the-final-fantaseer t1_j8r6hsi wrote

obviously I always prefer 60FPS especially considering the miniscule graphic differences, but for me 30FPS isn't life ending. I've played games with worse frame rates

That being said 144 FPS is where the kings live, sorry.

I think that if my brain knows that the current console or pc I’m using can definitely run the game at 60fps but I’ve set it to 30fps capped it feels horrible to play. However, with stuff like an Xbox one on GTA for example, it seems smooth because I know it won’t run it at 60fps

SilentResident1037 t1_j8rcmfz wrote

The fact is, even with "worse" settings, 60fps will almost always look better than 30

Only exception I have see was Horizon 2 on day one. The performance move was night and day compared to the graphics mode, which probably still is the best looking game on the system

As someone who values HD and pretty pictures over everything when watching movies, gaming, etc. I have to say if I can max out the graphics and play at 60 I will always do so.

However that's not to say that I won't play at 30 either. I have found in some circumstances in fact that while running at 30 and having all other graphical settings pushed up I can still get that gorgeous image quality I like at the expense of some of the smoothed out movement that 60 provides.

So I guess what I'm saying is, if 60 is available at full HD then sure I'm in. But if I have to settle for 30 as long as the image and graphics displayed are still crispy then I won't turn my nose up at 30 either.
