Sorry for the dumb question. It’s been a long time since I’ve owned a console—the last one I picked up was an Xbox 360 in 2009.

I’m getting the itch again. I just bought a brand new TV (65’’ LG C2) and my 2015 MSI gaming PC is getting a little tired.

Is now a good time to pick up a PS5 though considering that it was released in 2020, or should I be worried about it becoming obsolete any time soon?

The new Harry Potter game looks cool.

Have a ps5 maybe I’m getting old but imo all the games out lately suck.

It's definitely not getting obsolete any time soon. This generation has had such a slow start due to supply chain and chip issues. Look at the Harry Potter game, it's still releasing on the last gen! So maybe Sony will introduce their new console in the next year, but it's not because the PS5 is old or weak.

It's a good buy, IMO. If a PS6 is going to arrive, it won't be until 2026 or 2027 anyways.

Given the liquid metal issue, I'd wait for the new Slim or Pro. You've waited this long already. Hopefully my launch PS5 will survive until then.

I'm enjoying mine, decent exclusives and get ps extra and you have access to a library of games, some of which are decent. No point in getting ps premium if you ask me.

It’s the best time to get one, you’ve now got a library of very good games available and many more to come

Where do you live? By the way dont buy a console for one game, just dont. What are the prices in your country?

Tbh if you have a gaming pc you’d be better off just buying new hardware for it rather than buy a console you will have to replace in 6 years. Also pc>>console. Less expensive (long term) more freedom, more options, upgrade as you go. No typical console bs.

I wouldn't have any concerns at all about the PS5 becoming obsolete any time remotely soon. The PS4 is still getting numerous recent AAA games like Hogwarts Legacy and God of War Ragnarök, plus upcoming games like Resident Evil 4 Remake and Assassin's Creed Mirage. With the PS4 (released in 2013) still getting that level of support in 2023, the PS5 will be alright until at least 2030 probably a little more.

Well, I will say that it's only worth it if you wish to continuously keep playing, I know a lot of people in the same situation as you who wanted to buy a PS5 but stopped playing after a month. The console itself is great, but ask yourself first, what you would play, and if you have anyone to play with even.
