A few years ago I upgraded my graphics card to a 1080 so my gaming PC could be VR compatible. I mostly play open world RPG games. Like many others I’ve been playing Hogwarts legacy on my PC and I am struggling to get over 16fps even with settings turned down. I was intrigued by the idea of getting a PS5 for the PS5 exclusives that I would be able to play on launch and have heard Hogwarts Legacy runs great. I’m wondering if a PS5 would be worth getting? Since I upgraded in 2020, I really do not want to upgrade my graphics card just because of the insane prices they are selling for right now.

Current PC specs:

CPU: and fx 8350 8-core 4.0 GHz Ram: 16gb GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080

Sitting on the couch and not having to update and mess with settings is priceless. Next gen PS5 comes out this summer.

GTX 1080 is an old card and current games require newer RTX graphics cards to have parity with the console versions. If you don't want to upgrade to a modern graphics card then PS5 or Xbox Series X or S are right for you.

Yes get the PS5 for the excellent aaa exclusives, the convenience and all round less hassle of a console, no hackers ruining games, having the option of buying physical, backwards compatibility with PS4, split screen/local co-op, portability, exclusivity deals/content and you will find that the big developers along with most Japanese games will tend to prioritise PlayStation over PC.

I don't think the PS5 is worth it. At is stands now, a PS5 is just an glorified PS4 and all the good games are on pc as well, and the ones who aren't on pc yet, will come out eventually. Your pc isn't bad either, you just need to replace your cpu. A simple Ryzen 5 5600 would do wonders on your performance, a new motherboard and a Ryzen 5 5600 are cheaper than a ps5 and you could play the game just fine.

All upcoming ps games are not coming to ps4 anymore. Ps4s are not being sold anymore and can barely run the latest games. All the best ps5 games are not on pc and its looking like it will be years for them to arrive to pc, and they are usually badly optimized. The new hogwarts legacy is just one example of the ps5 and xbox outperforming PCs that cost thousands of dollars

Pc gamers are patient tho, a ps5 is only an option if you are anxious af and can't wait a few years to play games. Also, performance isn't great on consoles either, once it's fixed a medium tier pc will outperform both, and the games made by sony on pc right now like Horizon Zero Dawn are prettier and runs better than what a ps5/ps4 can deliver right now.

The ps5 is great and has many good exclusives but you might want to just upgrade your existing pc

Most PS exclusives are either on Steam or coming to Steam. For the price of a PS5 you could buy a GPU (like a used 3080) which would outperform it. Don’t get the PS5.

Edit: looking at your setup, your GPU isn’t an issue. Your CPU is EXTREMELY old/slow and will be bottling the card massively in most games, not just HL. You need a new CPU.

I would upgrade the PC, looks like you should upgrade the CPU soon

I don’t think the ps5 is worth it since the exclusives come to pc anyways and the xbox is cheaper, more available and the better console
