Submitted by MrMememelon t3_11bk9bi in consoles

I have money for XSX and ps5 but I'm aiming towards a ps5 bc of the controller games and resolution and frames, I know ps5 and the other consoles have alot of trouble trying to go 4k with 120fps so I want to go to 1440p for all of them at 120. I was just wondering if ps5 can hit 1440p 120fps more sharper and clearer than XSS and Does the same as XSS

I'd suggest concentrating on games rather than specs.

I know for a fact that I like just the games their stores have to offer me not any of there special game pass games or stuff like that

As someone with both, I prefer the PS5. But if you’re more concerned about backwards compatibility, then the Xbox is a good choice too.

What do you mean by backwards capability and is ps5 not good at that or something. Also I was saying does ps5 1440p 120fps look better than seriess s

120fps performance is equal on both, with the PS5 just now getting VRR support.

The Xbox has more support for older 360, OG Xbox games — so your library is slightly bigger to pick from. The PS5 has some BC, but it’s mostly via streaming.

Both consoles are generally going to look identical, with the Xbox offering slightly (emphasis on that) higher resolution at times.

That being said, the PS5 controller is much, much better than the Xbox. That is something to think about.

What is a vrr I may ask and when u say both what xbox r u talking about?

Both would likely be the series X, as the series S is a cheaper "worse" performing version (so if you want performance you wouldn't want the series S).

The PS5 can only play PS4 games physically, and PS3 games with a subscription.

The Xbox Series X/S can play all Xbox One games, most Xbox 360 and a good number of original Xbox games, with the only cost being the game itself.

The Xbox definitely has better backwards compatibility.

Both IMO are great consoles, I think what you have to look at is what games you want. I know for me I love the Ratchet and clank series, wanting to play both FFXVI and Spider-man 2, so ps5 is a no brainer. Or if you’re more of obsidian/Bethesda fan, then XSX would be the better option

EDIT: one thing I love about my XSX is that I’m able to take most 360 games from back in the day and pop it right in and play them. Plus brings back that nostalgic Xbox 360 swoosh

Dunno if I should be saying this but a nice little discord group has made tons of emulators for the Series S and X, including a PS2 emulator, Wii, GameCube, Dreamcast (I think)

Serie X is the better console, Xbox Live is the best MP Platform, Controller is imo better….your choice

I prefer console gaming over PC and don't think you can go wrong with either the XSX or PSS5.

thank you man I really mean it you've made me choosing it less difficult thx man

The PS5 controller is great and Xbox has benefits as well such as Gamepass.

But seriously only thing that is stopping me from getting a ps5 is that does it have as consisten frames as xbox x? If it doesn't I'm getting x

So I just had this same dilemma and having previously owned the series X I went for the PS5 and I’m so glad. The controller is amazing, all the first party games are just so much better. It feels more like a next gen console whereas the series X just felt much the same as my Xbox one but better graphics. I know everyone raves about gamepass but PlayStation plus in my opinion is just as good

MrMememelon OP t1_ja15uo4 wrote

This is kind of what I think would happen to me bc I've owned a ps3 and ps4 but if I get a ps5 it'll feel like the same thing just better graphics and fps or something and if I got xbox x it would feel more new gen or something. Idk

iamcoolreally t1_ja1dnhw wrote

Yeah that’s fair enough I think in that case go for the Xbox. I went from ps1 to the og xbox and then xbox all the way to now. So I think if I were you go for the xbox and experience all those first party games you missed you’ll have a better experience

This is important. The PS5 does not to 1440p, idk why just don't, its either 1080p or 4k. The xbox series x does 720p 1080p 1440p 2160p (That's 4k to the common foke).

zomenis t1_ja07rhx wrote

I do think the PS5 got an update for 1440p capabilities a while back

greatwhitesearc t1_j9zkl82 wrote

The performance is the same. It just comes down to ergonomics and which one offers games and services that suit you.

1

MrMememelon OP t1_ja16o0n wrote

Thanks alot but when the performance is same do you mean across XSX and ps5 or ps5, XSX, and XSS and again Thanks for clearing it up but only thing I'm worried about when choosing ps5 is does it have as consistent frames as the other 2 consoles?

Maverick_Goat t1_j9ym5e3 wrote

If you want to stick to 1440p just get the XSS and save some £££. You can get bundles which include Game Pass. I have PS Plus and XB Game Pass. The catalogues are similar.

Machine_94 t1_j9ylixq wrote

Xbox and get gamepass, like how Netflix works but for games, stream or download (series X or S)

shootglass77 t1_j9yck3v wrote

Both Xbox x and ps5, saves the hassle of choosing

MrMememelon OP t1_j9yen83 wrote

That's just a waste of money I just wanna know which one can run 1440p 120fps more constantly and with more clarity

If you’re concerned about performance - get neither and build a PC which beats them for $600-800.

All Xbox exclusives are on PC, both controllers work on PC and most PS5 exclusives have come or are coming to Steam (GoW, TLOU, Spider-Man, Horizon)

Games are also significantly cheaper and online play is free, so the extra spend would be made back quite quickly. You also get permanent backwards compatibility.

I'm not interested in PC's at the moment I will buy one after I upgrade my next gen console

1

RBTropical t1_j9yi0le wrote

Why aren’t you interested? A console is basically a PC these days - RyZen CPU, RDNA graphics, M.2 SSD. You’re basically buying a PC anyway, you’re just locked into that hardware and ecosystem. If you have a PC you don’t need a console - can’t see why you’d spend the money twice?

−5

MrMememelon OP t1_j9yibmx wrote

Dude I'm telling you i don't got no money yet for some PC yet and don't got any money what so ever for the keyboard and mouse and monitor and to upgrade its parts yet

2

RBTropical t1_j9yk8h0 wrote

But you’re suggesting buying a PC after buying a console?

A cheap KB+M is like $20, and you can just play with a controller at a TV like you would with a console - this is how my brother plays.

After you spend extra on games and online the price is the same.

princessXwednesday t1_j9ztnsp wrote

Don't know why this comment has been downvoted. Its true. A pc is far superior to either console and if I could afford one I 100% would. A newer console is only worth it imo if you have the TV to support the incredible graphics, if you don't you might aswell buy an xbox one cause its gunna look the same ✌🏻

Sadly because we’re in a consoles sub. These guys haven’t yet realised an Xbox or a PS5 is just a mid range PC which becomes low range 2 years in
