I know this is just a good old PlayStation VS Nintendo Fanboy trigger thread but I would actually add some real argument and thought to this.
First what really makes any gaming system great are the games. Of course this is highly subjective and people grown up with a playstation always will remember those games as the bedder games and of course playstation had great games BUT... Many 3D gameplay elements relevant up to this day where introduced with N64 games. I talking about thinks like 3D camera movement, the famous z-targeting and the use of a analog stick in general. This feature was so genius that Sony even had to updated the playstation controller after Nintendo introduced it.
Plus there are great games for Playstation no doubt about this BUT... With Shigeru Miyamoto as maybe the most talented game designer of our time and Koji kondo as maybe the most influential composer in the videogames industry, Nintendo had two of the most talented artist exclusively on their side.
Plus with Rare as one of the most innovative companies of the industry at this time also as an exclusive partner I really think the N64 was the most important console for 3D gaming at all.
PS: Still I love Sony for not giving up the gaming market after they where betrayed by Nintendo. Competition is always best for the market.
