Hi,

Little background about me. I'm turning 30 and used to be a big gamer back in my early days. I have very fond memories of playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1/2 and Halo 3 on Xbox 360 with my friends after school. I had a PlayStation 2 before that, but was probably a little too young to really get the most of it, so most of my gaming memories are attached to the 360. Other than FPS type games, I've always been into the Fifa's, Maddens, 2K's, and MLB the Show games - basically any sport game. I like open-world games, but not as much as I think I will when I buy them (only played like 25% of RDR2 before getting bored).

I currently have a PS4, but with life getting busier, I never really got into it. I just booted it up for the first time in a while and am working through Last of Us Remastered and am quite enjoying it. I don't have a ton of time anymore to dedicate to playing COD or Halo all day like I used to, so the single story games that I can pick up for 15-30 mins at a time are appealing to me. With winter coming, I might have more time on my hands as my work schedule is pretty flexible.

With that being said, I currently have an unopened PS5 and Xbox series X on my living room floor and am having a super hard time deciding which to return. I love the subscription based model as I can play tons of games without having to feel guilty about forking out the 40-60 bucks a pop and then not finishing them, and it seems like both gamepass and PS Plus Premium offer good choices.

I don't really have a community of friends that play one system or the other so that doesn't really mean much to me. I was originally thinking about the XSX for Halo and other games that bring back good memories, but I also feel like I might be missing out on some of the single-player PS exclusives that will come down the line. So my question is, which do I return? Is the xbox and gamepass a better option for my needs? Or should I stick with Playstation to be able to enjoy the great exclusives as they are released?

Thanks!

Imo If you haven’t got the social aspect for playing with friends then I’d go with a PS5. I’ve got a XSX but I usually play online with people, If I didn’t have that I would defo go for the PS5. Also depends on the games you want to play, I’m a big Halo fan and prefers the controller. All personal preference, that’s my 2 cents.

Xbox and game pass is the best and cheapest option i think, and you will learn to know so many games with game pass

I have both and I have to say, that's a tough choice to make but I would lean towards the Playstation 5.

I love the PS5 controller. When the haptic feedback in the triggers is incorporated properly into a game, it really does feel like an evolution forward in controls. The other aspect of the PS5 is Playstation VR 2. Not sure how you feel about VR but from what I've read and seen, it looks like it's going to really help VR take off and will definitely offer unique experiences that you can only get on Playstation.

The Xbox is nice, but it is sometimes too familiar of an experience for me. The controller is mostly unchanged. The UI is still awful. Halo and Forza really are my main reasons for owning one and I can not wait for the new Forza.

I think in the end, if you're purely gaming on console, the Playstation 5 offers more of a next generation console experience. The difference between my One X and Series X is more akin to upgrading your phone after a year or two. Yea, it's better specs and everything, but there's nothing really transformative about it. The way you interact with it is the same.

The Playstation 5 is truly a different experience from the Playstation 4. Menu, features, controller all make playing even familiar games feel different.

I have a ps5 and my roommate has a xsx and we switch consols from time to time to be able to catch up with exclusives.

I just feel more comfortable with Xbox controller on long gaming sessions but if you don't have that time dualsense will give you an amazing experience.

PlayStation subscription is good for catching up with old exclusives but not new ones. Xbox subscription is good for playing current games and also current exclusives with time.

Also with xsx you can play almost any game you mentioned that you fond of. I recently played Conker's Bad Fur Day and Castlevania Lords of Shadow on my friends Xbox for example.

One thing PS5 has is it's exclusives which are really making everyone's choice harder like you noted on your post. Last of Us, Returnal, Spiderman, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Sifu etc.

From what you said about yourself I think Xbox would be a great choice for you. But if you're still thinking about other exclusives that I haven't mentioned in the last paragraph go for PlayStation. Gaming is all about enjoying ourselves. I think either way your choice would be the right choice. Have fun friend.
