My primary console is a Xbox series X and it serves as the primary entertainment center for my home. Almost any streaming service has a native app, gamepass has plenty of content both new and old that there's something for everyone.
For a console outside of that it would be hard to justify. I have a switch but it doesn't get used that often.

If it's not a subscription model like GamePass, and you already own the game?

Not me, but my friend owns an Xbox 360 and will not sell it because it has JSRF. He owns a console for 1 game.
I used to own a ps4 just to play ghost of Tsushima but eventually I sold it. I can't justify owning an entire console just for one game... unlike my friend

PS5 - Horizon, God of War, Spider-Man and Ghost of Tsushima
XsX - Forza and Halo. The Xbox also has better quality audio-video playback for streaming services.
So I got both

Forza for XBox if you're really into racing. Imo Gears Of War and Halo are not really that much of games. Extremely overrated if you ask me.
For Playstation basically almost every exclusive they have. They are just generally phenomenal for me.
For Switch you really need to be into RPGs to keep it. If I had money to, I would easily buy a Switch just to play BOTW and Pokémon

I bought a switch just so I could play breath of the wild

Depends on hours
Like if a game will only have 20 hours play and I'm done, not worth it. I wouldn't even buy it new. I would wait until it's for resale.
If i think i can play a game or console for at least 6 months it's probably worth it
And if it's an old hackable system, then i will just buy a flash cart or do a ode mod or something and get the games for free

What is the value you’re looking at here? What’s the “worth” you’re trying to gauge?
You already own the console and games, so there’s no cost to factor in unless it’s the online/GamePass sub.
If it’s time investment, ask yourself this: do you find when you’re playing these games, you’re 100% invested, full attention and having fun? Or are you thinking of other things to do or once you’re finished, do you somewhat regret spending that free time playing those games?
Are there other types of games you enjoy that you haven’t played before that may be available on those systems? Ie. Sports, simulation, strategy, rpg, puzzle, etc.

Depends on the games, but probably 3-5 as the FEWEST.

Consoles are just easier.
Buy a new one every couple years plug it in a play. I'd love to have a PC, but idk how to build one and if I could just set it up in my living room, and I prefer controllers

Personally, I would absolutely own a console for just one game that I could see myself putting many hours into. And when I’m not using it to game, it runs Spotify, Netflix, YouTube, etc.
