Hello! I am aware you probably get a lot of the same questions of “which console to purchase?” But I would really appreciate some advice, as Redditors always pull through better than google searches and bloggers.

I am a retired gamer (I’m in my late 20’s) but I want to pick it back up as a potential hobby for me and my partner. I used to own a PS2, and my partner had a PS1, and we both loved our consoles to bits. We do not own any PCs at the moment.

Generally speaking, we don’t plan on gaming with other friends, but don’t mind gaming with strangers; love GTA, sho0ting/k*lling games, adventure/quest/farming games are okay as well.

Only planning on getting one console, and currently do not have any games on hand.

So should we get PS/Xbox/Nintendo? Thanks!

Honestly series X is the best choice in my opinion, not a fan of console wars.

Reason is all your license stay with you through generations

They perform better with enhancements.

Cloud saves for free

XCloud for cloud gaming with your cloud saves.

Your purchased licenses will be able to be played on the cloud soon

Gamepass.

And Microsoft rewards.

Bar nintendo, Sony and Microsoft offerings both achieve pretty much the same outcome. There will be slight differences on either side. Series X is a little cheaper and probably easier to get hold of though.

Both platforms have a good range of exclusives.

Both have their own game library to use (sort of like the Netflix model but for games). One plus Sony has over Microsoft here is that you can actually stream a game before downloading. Saves time on games you may not like.

Normally, I would say Series X from X-Box, just because of its' greater availability and ease of access in the gaming market. But - given your description of yourself being someone coming out of gaming retirement and that you're looking into solo gaming, then I am sorry, but the PS5 wins hands down...

Sony has been known for some of its' stellar solo games. Properties such as Uncharted, Last of Us, God of War, Spider Man are some among the many exclusive properties for the PS5. As a solo gamer, there is no other console that takes solo gaming to the next level like the Playstation. That being said, I said earlier that I am sorry. That's because no one will fault you for not wanting to spend your grandparents' entire inheritance money on a new PS5 console, because that is what it's going to cost you to get one. Moreover with how large these games are, you will need to invest in an SSD drive right from the beginning, which will cost you anywhere from 200 bucks more to...way way more. All in all, once you're done, all of this will set you back a 1000 bucks or close to it.

I am a Sony fan but I refuse to trade my left testicle and kidney to get a game console. Some don't mind, but I do. Because of its' short supply and the current unreal resale price, you're better off taking your chances with the Series X. I personally am just going to wait this storm out to get my PS5.

The ps5 will give you some better story based exclusives. As far as the variety of games it goes to the Xbox since you’re picking up again from the ps2 both controllers will be odd at first but you’ll get used to whichever console to get. Ps5 will in a few years have the same amount of games that Xbox has to offer do to them also now adding in the feature to stream old games. But both are just as good imo and it’s up to you. If you wanna enjoy the quality of the graphics for now I would say ps5 because the exclusives make better use of the new gen system

If you are using it to play a lots of different games, and don’t really care about the better exclusives on ps(I assume you don’t as you’re new to modern gaming) then I’d defo go for the series x, it’s more affordable as well

I have a switch and I love it, you have exclusive games like Mario and Pokémon, it’s portable and you can play on tvs, although storage is a bit of a downside, so if you do get a switch then get a Microsd card as well
