I think Google stadia was onto something. With this generation of consoles manufacturers are figuring out that hardware doesn't make a lot of money but games do. So I'm thinking that future consoles will just be a Roku like stick that just streams games from a central server.

The console itself being a controller would present a lot of complications , you would have a lot of people out of your system ( and you want people spending time on your platform playing and buying games etc ) whenever the controller is out of order. You want to make it as comfy and easy as possible for costumers so that they remain in your ecosystem and not the other way round.

Having controllers as a separate accessory is always better to make money , people buy on average from 2 to probably 5 controllers throughout each console generation. It makes more sense having a smaller hardware that connects to your screen with separate controllers.

Probably be a controller and a box to stream to. I prefer to have a game collection though

Not any time soon. Sure the new XBox and PS are bigger than ever. Gotta love that sexy wee Switch though.

Going back to the good ole' days of plug-n-play games I see. But I think it will depend, I could def see Xbox doing something super minimal like that, but Nintendo, probably not. I don't think there is any one 'future' of gaming because people will like different experiences.
