Submitted by ForbiddenForester t3_z8zjan in consoles

Rookie question here. I've never purchased my own console but am thinking about getting one soon, mainly in anticipation of Hogwarts Legacy next year. I have an Xbox 360 that's collecting dust but haven't gotten anything since then. I love puzzle and adventure games, not so much shooting or sports games. I've tried researching best options for consoles but I just come across a bunch of information that feels superfluous. Really just looking for great graphics, intuitive controls and interface, and longevity (i.e., won't go out of date in the near future). Price is sort of a factor but I'm willing to pay up for quality. Any advice or tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Depends on your budget, but I’d favour Xbox right now. The Series X is more powerful than the PS5, but it’s mainly the value for money you get with Xbox games pass, it’s too good. If you’re not overly concerned about the highest spec graphics or having a disk drive, the Xbox series S is a great choice console to get you back into gaming

Since you already have a Xbox, I think a Xbox Series X is the logical next step and GamePAss is awesome, if you are the type of person that can start playing new games right away.

If you decide to go with PC and have a Steam account, then I suggest to build an all AMD system and use HoloISO (Steam OS 3).

One thing you could do is look at the exclusives for each console and see which one's appeal to you more.

You can’t go wrong with the Xbox and Game Pass, but from a purely market demographic point of view the PlayStation will get more puzzle games - although I doubt many of them are exclusives.

If you also have a PC it changes the equation but both Sony and Microsoft are also putting “exclusives” out for PC.

Big mistake. Console war. Console nuke. Console apocalypse. Console heat death of the universe.

My bad, lol, It was on my feed and didn't even notice this was console. Oopsi.

For console, Xbox for me, because the Gamepass is an excellent service and the games can extend to your pc... and you can also stream games on anything... even an android tablet if you have one.

Games + Great service... Xbox.
If you don't care too much, get the xbox series S... but if you want to maximize graphics go for Series X. ;)

Cheers

Xbox One, Xbox One X, or Xbox Series X, depending on what you can afford/find in stock. You'll be able to play your old 360 games on the new system, and the game pad will feel familiar.

Series X is the most current version, afaik the current games will still run on a One or One X but the newer ones won't run very well.

TL;DR: Xbox Series X

I would say ps5 but that is biased for me since I have one but it has really good graphics and so on and the exclusives are really good

Nintendo switch is going to have the best option for puzzles and adventure games with hogwarts legacy, BOTW and TOTK, any of the Zelda games are big puzzlers, Pokémon legends is very adventurous as well as the new mainlines, I've heard the rabids games are decent puzzlers, mario party superstars was fun and mario odyssey was amazing, plus the mario 3d collection from the Wii/GameCube era. If you're not interested in shooter games then I'd avoid the Xbox or PlayStations as that is their highlights. Though god of war was absolutely incredible. There's also a really decent downloadable collection of games that every so often get physical releases through limited run producers if physical is something you care about. Trover saves the universe is a big puzzler and I am having so much fun in it plus roiland is hilarious
