The newest generation of consoles is the ps5 and the xbox series x or the xbox series s. The x is bigger and more powerful, the s is more portable, the ps5 is kinda like a middle ground between them and sleek.

The generation prior is the xbox one, one s and one x for the xboxes. For the PlayStations, it's the ps4 and ps4 Pro (I believe). They're similar in power, the xbox controller is considered far more comfortable. The ps4 is a fan favourite.

PlayStation has better exclusives. If you ran your pc on Microsoft then any games bought through the Microsoft store can be transferred to your xbox if it's compatible. Though I expect you used steam.

Most games are cross platform between all 3 at this point so it doesn't matter too much what your friends are on, but on some games you can't join them in a party unless you're on the same platform first.

Its your decision. I'm biased to xbox. A lot of people have said PlayStation, but a lot of people fail to give reasoning.

P.s. The older generation is slowly dying, you can pick up the series x, which is the most powerful of the newer gen consoles with the most advanced hardware, for around 400 GBP brand new. This translates to around 450ish USD. I hope you find one you like my friend.

Edit: there are ways you can try consoles and the controller without buying the consoles. I recommend doing this to avoid buying what everyone says is better just to find you actually prefer a different one.

Curious as to why you state the PS is middle ground when in reality (not just stats on paper) there is minimal difference between the Series X and PS5?

“A lot of people have said PlayStation, but a lot of people fail to give reasoning”

  • Absolutely solid tier of Exclusive titles? Not all of which have hit PC?

  • Haptic controller?

  • Whilst PS tiers pale in comparison to game pass, they get amazing monthly games compared to Xbox imo. December is Mass Effect Legendary Edition & Biomutant for example. GWG has been treading water for ages now.

It’s a few points that I think are very worthy when contemplating the two.

I own both and honestly don’t think you can go wrong with either option. However to actually experience next gen? PS will get you there sooner - I’m still waiting on series x.

I say ps is middle ground because xbox is quintessentially console and pc is the polar opposite. Ps to me feels like a good blend of console perks and benefits and pc playability and quality.

The haptic controller on the ps5 is amazing. The ps4 not so much. And the entire style is a clear rip off of the xbox controller design (granted its not a patented design and is the most ergonomic controller design to date but still).

I mentioned ps exclusives are legendary. God tier. And in fairness so is the tiers. But game pass is just better in so many more ways.

My bad for over stepping. Just seen a rise in people bragging about the series X power over the PS5 lately and spreading a lot of false information - which for a buyer is a bit shitty!
