I'm looking for a console and want either the series X or ps5. I can get a new xsx for 450 from the shop or a used ps5 for 400-450. I like the Xbox controller more, the Xbox menu more, it's slightly more powerful, and overall I prefer Xbox. But ps does have some good exclusives (TLOU, ghost of Tsushima, Horizon) so I'm kinda torn. The Xbox is cheaper and imo better but I do wanna play some ps games. What do I go for? Edit: i also don't like the ps controller layout, and ik most ppl are just gonna say to get Xbox as I like it more, but I'm asking what YOU prefer more

I mean it sounds like you've made up your mind. Not liking the UI or controller aren't going to be overcome by a few exclusive games. You need to use the console for every game.

Personally I've got an Xbox and would find it hard to swap especially with Game Pass offering so much to play.

I do miss Gran Turismo though!

So I go back and forth. Tbh I mainly play f2P games like WZ and fortnite, Apex etc. I’ve gone from Ps4 - Xbox 1 to series S to series X. And I was in a GameStop and saw the PS5 there and was avail so I traded in my series X for it. At some point mid gen upgrades will come out and I’ll decide where to go next. Sooo as far as difference in hardware, I’ve never noticed. All the games play flawlessly on my 4K monitor. What I actually love about the PS5 is the controller. Haptic feedback is awesome. It’s definitely my favourite part about the console. I could care less about god of war , spiderman and all the other exclusives. For Xbox, Game pass is amazing especially if you like to try out different games. It’s definitely an amazing deal. If you like the PS exclusives then I would just go with PS. But they are essentially the same devices with different software. In addition all the new 3rd party multiplayer games all seem to be coming out cross platform. I play Warzone with all my friends on all platforms. I think in the end just walk into the GameStop or wherever and whatever is available get it. Good luck and I’m sure you’ll be happy with either choice

Tbh I'm in the UK and the only one readily available is the series X, if I wanted a ps5 i would need one used or hunt in stores. I hate the ps controller, and even tho I want the exclusives, I also hate ps fanboys so I think ima go for the Xbox. Edit: also imo the ps5 is like an iPhone and an Xbox is like an android. The Xbox is better and more powerful, while the ps5 is more popular and flashy ( also kinda a trend)

I own both and much prefer my Series X, however there’s no right answer. It really does come down to your preference of games.

I personally prefer my Xbox because there’s far more games/devs I like there, plus Gamepass is just so good. Far more old games on there have been enhanced/patched/upgraded with 60FPS etc. plus you get lots of day one releases.

To be clear I’m not shitting on my PS5, it’s a great console but the games I like on there are few and far between so I just keep that for occasional exclusive.

I prefer ps5. My PC has all of my Xbox games covered.

Also, series x only has 4 current gen only games that I'm aware of (2 of those are also on PS5 and one on is even on PS4). Meaning, you can buy a an old Xbox one for under $100 and play all of the same games as the Series X (obviously at lower quality).

I think ima go for the Xbox as I don't have a pc ( i actually sold it for £800 to get the Xbox/ps5) and I see the ps5 like an iPhone, it's just popular and flashy but not quite as good. That's just my opinion tho and you might think otherwise. Also I don't like the controller and overall it seems kinda anti consumer

I’ve got both consoles. If I was going to get one of them then I would absolutely get the PS5. The exclusives can’t be matched. My SeriesX is a game pass machine

Fair enough. The PS5 also has a free library of hundreds of games so if you haven’t owned one before then there’s plenty to play. Series X exclusives have a theme of always being delayed. Hopefully that changes in 2023. Enjoy your Xbox dude

If you want game pass, get the series x.

IMO PS5 for sure. I am fortunate enough to have both systems. My XSX literally has not been turned on in weeks if not months. Considering selling it or potentially waiting for Starfield as I’d like to experience that game on console.

In my experience I have far more bugs and issues with the XSX over the PS5. The main issue for me on the Box was it just randomly started to delete games on me. I’d have to redownload them which was super annoying.

The PS5 is def superior with exclusive games and the controller connection. I experience a ton of input lag with the Xbox, both on vanilla controllers and the Elite 1 and 2. It’s not the controller because both elites work fantastic on my PC with zero lag input - wired or wireless. Absolutely zero issues with the PS5 controllers - plus the adaptive triggers ARE INSANE! They’re so incredible. You need to experience what pulling a bow string feels like in HFW and what the grains of sand feel like in Astros Play World. It’s def an experience.

Just finished God of War Ragnarok on PS5 and it’s a masterpiece. As are TONS of other games on PS. Played Halo Infinite and was extremely disappointed and did not finish it. I’m sure in time, with the acquisitions Xbox has made this year (Bethesda etc) their exclusive line up will get better.

All of the above is super great and all however it’s easiest to make your decision by “which platforms do I have the most friends” - if your friends are all on Xbox then get a Xbox. Hope this helps!

I had both, and whilst the Xbox series x was nice and smooth I didn’t like the controller layout and always felt like I was missing out on PS exclusives. Plus my friends have PlayStations so I ended up trading it in for a ps5 and I’m very happy with my decision

I have both and have been a Playstation first gamer since the PS1 days. Completely skipped out on the Xbox One last gen. That said, through most of 2022 I've found myself booting up the Series X way more often. Here are some of my personal reasons why I think that is (in no particular order of importance).

  1. I find the Xbox controller more comfortable than the Dualsense in the hands and tend to perform better at FPS games with the Xbox controller. This is obvious with MW2 as I own the game on both SX and PS5 (don't ask lol).
  2. I much prefer the Xbox UI to the Playstation's UI. It's just more interesting to interact with. Clubs and stuff like that are occasionally cool to check out, and I feel like the stuff my friends are doing/sharing are more visible to me on Xbox. I share screenshots on both systems, but only on Xbox do I ever get likes or comments.
  3. Quick Resume. Single handedly I think the MAIN reason the Series X has become my number 1. I'm currently playing through Cyberpunk 2077, MW2, Vampire Survivors and FIFA. Being able to seamlessly switch between these games and pick up right where I left off within seconds is a massive massive next gen feature for me and possibly my favorite feature of this generation. It's hit or miss with always online games for sure, but you still save a few seconds without having to cold boot the game each time.
  4. Game Pass. This one is obvious. I sub to both GP and PS+. While Playstation's service has come a long way in the last year, it's still no match against Game Pass. Like not even close.
  5. Discord integration. This one is coming to Playstation at some point or so I've heard, but this has been a bit of a game changer amongst my group of friends. I have friends that play MW2 on PC, so when we crossplay, it's nice to all be in the same VC right from the Xbox using Discord. On Playstation, I used to have to have an Airpod in one ear connected to Discord on my phone, then my Playstation headset over the airpod. It was annoying an uncomfortable. Discord integration is huge.
  6. Bethesda exclusivity. This one might not be a big one for people that aren't huge Bethesda fans, but Fallout and Skyrim are some of my favorite games of ALL TIME. When I found out MS bought them, I was shocked. I'm super hyped for Starfield and it's going to be an Xbox exclusive.
  7. I don't care much for the direction Sony exclusives have gone. I played all the original God of War games including 2018 and most recently Ragnarok. I gotta be honest, Ragnarok disappointed me massively. It seems Sony first party exclusives stray farther and farther from solid gameplay experiences and have become more about cinematic delivery. That's fine and well, and there's no denying Last of Us was one HELL of a game, but I don't know, my patience for playing games in 15 minute segments before a long cut scene of endless exposition has grown thin. At this point the only PS exclusive I really loved this year was Gran Turismo 7 (might be my favorite racing game of all time). There's also Final Fantasy 16 coming up in 2023 that seems to be an exclusive to PS5, so I'll be picking that up there. But all in all, the "PS5 has better exclusives" is very very hit or miss for me.
  8. The Series X looks nicer on my tv stand than the ridiculous PS5 design. Seriously the ugliest Playstation of all time. Even the black body panels I bought for it aren't enough to save the look of that system.

And those are the main reasons off the top of my head at the moment on why I personally seem to be preferring the Series X to the PS5 this gen.

There is something to be said about the fact that at launch, games seem to always perform just slightly better on PS5 than they do on SX. I'm not sure why that is given that on paper the SX is the more powerful hardware. But check out any Digital Foundry video from the last 5 major cross platform releases, and you'll see the pattern. This isn't a dealbreaker as it's not like the games run/look like shit on Xbox or anything and most people wouldn't even notice, but in games like Elden Ring for example, I played it first on SX then later on PS5. In my opinion the game looked sharper on PS5 and performed better as well. Perhaps this changes as the gen goes on, but usually when you see patterns like this persist 2 years into the console life cycle, they tend to indicate how the rest of the gen goes.

Anyway, I know you got the Xbox already and I think you've made the right choice. Perhaps at some point an exclusive comes out on PS you just gotta have and maybe you can pick up a PS5 at that point (ideally after a model refresh/upgrade), but for now if I could only own one of the systems, it's SX all day for me and that's wild considering last generation I thought Xbox was laughably bad. Say what you want about Phil Spencer, but I admire his communication and openness with the community. The lack of solid first party exclusives for Xbox after all these years is a massive L, but it does at least seem like they've been aware of this and we could potentially see a massive change to this in the next few years.

Hope that made you feel even better about your purchase.

Happy gaming!

I always prefered xbox controller, until I used the dualsense for the first time. Now it is easily the best controller I have ever used. Also, speaking as someone who has both series x and ps5. I personally find the ps5 to be miles better. Even though gamepass is amazing, sony has been doing a far better job with the ps+ extra, I find it to be a lot better bang for my buck than the gamepass. I haven’t played my series x in about 4 months, and I am about to sell it. Meanwhile I daily drive my ps5. If I knew better back then I would never have bought a series x, even more so because of xcloud, if I wanna play some xbox game I just do it through cloud, and play the other games on the ps5.

I'd say, start with getting xsx and later buy into ps for a few games you're down for. In the end you play primary as preferred ecosystem while still able to ultimately play the other consoles titles
