It's hard to not recommend a PC, it's just such a better experience at any price point it's amazing, consoles gamers are rarely playing console solely because they want to use the xbox UI or get some games every month with playstation plus, they want to use a console because they want to play games and have new experiences, PC is just better at doing that

That is completely untrue, first of all, I bought the Xbox series x for $600 cad, and it can easily run 4K 120fps games, while a pc for the same price can only run either 4K at 60fps or 1080p at 120fps comfortably, while it’s true that a $5000 dollar PC will run much better than any console, PC isn’t the be all end all gaming machine, if you only want to drop $600 cad on a gaming machine, console is the way to go. I have both a PC and a Xbox Series X, and I use my Xbox Series X way more, also game pass in much more expansive on the Xbox then on PC.

Your measure for what is good isn't what is considered actually good, PC has cheaper games, more games, more free games, more controller options, can be cheaper or more expensive, has a full VR library, can mod games, multi monitor support, higher refresh rates, higher resolutions, free online, any peripheral you want, more audio options, better recording software and video editing features, epic games weekly free games, steam, humble bundle, emulation at higher than native performance and resolution, better chatting options, mouse and keyboard, ability to use PC to do other things, ability to have access to playstation and xbox exclusives over time or now, game pass, small PC, big PC, portable PC. You being able to use a $600 console on a $1400 TV to play fortnite with a controller at 4k doesn't matter when PC has all that and more, that's why I recommend a PC over a console, 4k gaming doesn't matter when you have to pay $10 dollars every month just to play online and every game costs $70

Both have many pros and cons, this article explains it really well, I use both and personally find more enjoyment out of my Xbox, but it’s ultimately up to OP what he prefers. https://www.online-tech-tips.com/gaming/pc-vs-console-gaming-pros-and-cons/amp/

Yeah, I'm not trying to force anyone to do anything I just really think PC is the way to go for most gamers

That’s a completely valid opinion, and I can completely see where your coming from, I honestly got more enjoyment out of building my PC than just buying my Xbox, but my PC also cost around the same price, and it is much less powerful, I agree, for a lot of gamers pc is the way to go, but I don’t think that was OP’s question, he wanted to know if he should switch from PlayStation to Xbox, and I personally think you can get a lot of enjoyment from both pc and Xbox, and it ultimately depends on what kind of gamer you are.

Why recommend something that the dude hasn't even asked about? If they aren't asking about it why not just assume that they took the time to consider it and just stick to answering the question they asked?

It's like someone asking if they should have hotdogs or burgers for dinner and you reply with "sushi." The dude knows what he wants and narrows it down to two options. Just help him make that choice. Certainly doubt it would actually make him buy a PC.

Because he most likely wants to play games, many console players don't know the advantages of PC and I'm always gonna recommend it,

Doesn't make any difference to me. A comment on reddit isn't going to be the straw that makes a person switch from Console to PC. I just see these types of comments on every single "help me decide on what console to get" thread. It isn't helpful.

I get it, PC is getting cheaper to get into and is getting more accessible while being powerful. But some people value different things in consoles than other people. Instead of acknowledging this, "get a PC" people choose to disregard it.

Edit: I'm an Xbox and PC player that tends to use my PC to game more.

I understand your view, I also recommend PC for ideological reasons. I've convinced a few friends to switch to PC, I'd just feel disingenuous to myself if I don't recommend it, especially on a post like this where the OP wants to switch from PS to Xbox

We’re not trying to be rude by saying “get a pc”. We genuinely want to enlighten someone who otherwise might not have considered it. This is a place for public discussion. We should be allowed to say whatever we want so long as it doesn’t break the rules of this subreddit and reddit.com.

RobertWayneLewisJr t1_j0mcycj wrote

Ah yes, going to a subreddit dedicated exclusively to consoles and thinking the people in it have never even considered a PC before. Not thinking that there may be some sort of valid reason that someone could want a console over a gaming computer.

This is a place of public discussion, we are discussing things. I am not saying you are being rude, I am saying the suggestions you make aren't helpful. About as welcome as a Jehovah's witness.

I didn’t seek out this subreddit with the specific intention of leaving comments like this. It just showed up in my home feed because it’s related to gaming. I didn’t realize that this was r/consoles at first. I just like discussing gaming. I was under the impression that you got offended by my (and the other guy in this thread’s) comments and were being defensive, hence the downvotes.

1

RobertWayneLewisJr t1_j0mety8 wrote

If that's true then I guess we don't have anything more to deliberate. There are trolls on the sub that bring nothing more to the table than just to buy a PC without more. I'll say your comment was more detailed and helpful than the usual. But the sentiment in my other comments remains.

As for the downvotes, I wasn't offended by your comments. I downvoted because I assumed you downvoted my comments. I would not have done it otherwise. I'll reverse that. Later.

If I wanted to get a PC that is at least as powerful as a Series X or PS5, how much would it be? (Not including keyboard/mouse)

Probably around 1000 to 1200 if you built it yourself, a few hundred more for a pre made one, if you were willing to find pre owned parts like 750-900 instead, then any cheap peripheral will work, an existing one you already have is free obviously. then over time you'd make up the difference by not paying for online and cheaper games, over the cost of 7 years (about how long it takes until new console) youd save about 700 dollars alone in just a subscription to play online, over the past 2 years youd have saved around 1500-2000 in free games from epic games, then ofcourse games being cheaper brings that down even more. Then after all those savings you get all the benefits i listed in my other comment, the only downsideds are entry cost and possible finding it hard to get up and running i suppose but id say the benefits outweigh the negatives hugely. From personal experience ive turned a few tech illiterate console friends into PC users and they all tell me it just isnt as hard as theyve been told, I also think using a PC is just so useful in general for day to day life and not knowing how to use one until you have to later at a job or something is probably annoying haha, hope this helps and if you are personally looking for recommendations ill give my two cents

I appreciate the feedback. I had built one in the past but sold it because I needed the money for something else at the time. However, I’m still a newbie and built one simply by following a YouTube video, not knowing exactly how everything worked. The biggest fear I have is upgrading everything after a few years and having to start from scratch due to a new GPU not being compatible with the motherboard and so forth. Does that happen?

That’s a bit of a misnomer. Consoles rarely run games at native 4K and if they do the graphics settings are usually set to low. Native 4K high/ultra textures at 60 is better than upscaled 4K low preset at 120 imo. You are also completely at the mercy of the game dev whether or not they program their game to run at 120 or 4K (it’s exceedingly rare for a game to support both). Whereas you can make virtually any PC game run at 120 with little hassle. And 4K 120 tvs are expensive ($1k+). You might as well put that extra capital towards a proper gaming desktop and monitor.

For the same price you could either get a $1000 pc and $500 monitor or a $500 console and a $1000 tv. The choice is clear to me.

No, the Series X runs at Native 4K, Series S runs at upscaled 4K, also, it works with monitors, so you can buy a $500 dollar monitor and $500 console, or you can buy a $1000 dollar PC and a $500 dollar monitor, also 90% of new Xbox games support 4K 120 fps for a similar gaming experience to a $1000 pc, the choice is clear to me
