I finished Death Stranding in 2019 and I started playing the Director's Cut just recently. Over that time I have disliked a lot of cinematic games just because of the excessive hand holding and gameplay interruptions so I'm very confused on why I enjoy this game which has received a reputation of being a "walking simulator" which I personally don't see because when I think about walking simulator games I remember titles like Octodad and Qwop so I don't really get the similarities.

I just want to figure this out because I'm extremely confused and I'm not even a huge Kojima fan in general.

Thanks.

Not entirely accurate.

Quite accurate, only you will be able to know why you like DS and not other cinematic games.

Nobody else has the answer to that question except you.

You could try asking the Death Stranding subreddit. I'm a massive fan of Death Stranding, it's a game that really resonated with me. It's not really something that can be quantified in a reasonable amount of time I feel (hence why a 7 hour review of the game exists.)

Because it's a game like no other.

I liked it, and I think I'd liked it better without any combat

Games can be pretty similar, but the music, artwork, physics engine, movement and gameplay can be big factors in how much you like a game and are often overlooked compared to things like graphic detail, target audience and the story.

I love first person shooters, but some of them just feel wrong. I used to love final fantasy games because of the stories, but I really dislike the open world hack and slash with bad guys everywhere 🤷‍♂️
