Because of the optimisation and power of the console, I know it may come as a shock but these consoles aint no slouch. They can stand up quite straight and face games head-on. Yes, they're £450 but you need to bare in mind Microsoft and sony sell them at a heavy loss and make money back through games/online memberships etc.

No I think you're dead on.

There can be hundreds or even thousands of PC combinations.

There's only one PS5, and only one XSX. The CPU memory and GPU are all known quantities and can be developed towards.

Console manufacturers have also been known to withhold the true spec/capabilities of a machine and then update the developers throughout the console's life cycle. This is how you get better looking games year after year on the same hardware.

They can also, in the case of the PS vita hand held, withhold or reserve a certain amount of system capacity for later expansions or software updates, that they can give back to the developers if/when they decide they don't actually need it.
