My dad is really bored at home at the moment, he used to be a little bit of a gamer in his 20s / 30s but hasn't played since.

I'm going to buy him a PS5 and need recommendations for games that arent too easy or too hard.

He loves racing games, although more focused on realism than arcade. He played the classics duke nukem, doom, quake, splinter cell.

Thankful for all recommendations!

I reccomend an Xbox with GamePass.

He'll have over 100 games to choose what to play.

He'll love the forza games. Horizon and motorsport.

Doom 2016 and eternal are both on GamePass. As are the originals.

Series S is amazing value. But if he wants best of best graphics on console, series X

GamePass is the play in this situation....

If you want to do PS5, the PS Premium or whatever is pretty nice, too. It's not GamePass yet (ever?) but it does have a good chunk of games, and you can gift more than a month, so he wouldn't really have time concerns.

I'm sure he'll be able to figure out what he wants to play.

The ps extra subscription is more games than xbox game pass and is about the same price as 1 game.

Instead of buying 1 game, get him the subscription.

Sounds like he would love Gran Turismo 7, RE: Village, Doom 2016 (and maybe Eternal after that). I bet he would love adaptive triggers.

Though...

When you're grooming a new gamer what you offer to them first usually don't stick. After your initial offer they find something THEY like by THEMSELVES. Which, let's be honest is how we enjoy gaming, by choosing our own games. Imagine someone asking you to play x game every other day, I would hate that game for a while for sure

I do both. Game Pass for my PC and PS Plus premium for my PS5.

I use the PS Plus Premium a lot more. If I had to chose 1, PS Plus Premium would be it. Game Pass has Day One releases, which is cool. But how many of them are GOTY contenders? Literally...Zero.

Every year Sony has 2 or 3 GOTY nominees. Those all come to PS Plus eventually.

if it was an xbox i would have said forza horizon.my dad had kind of a similar situation.he ended up playing forza horizon alot, almost everyday.although other forza game serieses would be better for realism.

If he likes card games at all, he could like Slay the Spire. Totally chill game and definitely relieves boredom.

Also I have to agree with the Xbox Series comment. For someone who hasn’t been gaming recently and doesn’t know what they like, Game Pass is amazing for letting you try lots of stuff and Forza Horizon sounds right up his alley.

Imo get an Xbox series S and put doom on it - Xbox game pass has most Doom titles included and he can play Forza Horizon 5 which is a nice blend of realism and arcade with adjustability such as difficulty, Traction control ABS etc plus tons of customisation on the car itself.

You can also purchase some of the splinter cell titles for cheap as well including blacklist which is the most recent.

This method is a lot cheaper than a PS5 and games

PS5

Pick up;

DOOM PS4

Gran Turismo

For a PS5: NFS Unbound or alternatively, for an Xbox Series X/S: Forza Horizon 5 and COD: MWII
