Xbox series x or ps5

This is a very commonly asked question, I'm aware, but I really need help choosing between them so bare with me :')

For context, I haven't touched a console for years and I only have experience with ps1, ps2, psp, nintendo 3ds and Wii but I learn very quickly so getting accustomed to new layouts won't be much of a problem. I have a laptop which is not good for gaming but I really enjoy playing so I want to give a new gen console a try.

Considering how my laptop cannot run "heavy games" my main reason for wanting a console is to be able to play games that my laptop would suffer with. I like many types of games but mostly multiplayer online games like cod and action-adventure ones. None of my friends are really into gaming so I'm not worried about getting a console that matches theirs for easier co-op. I also don't really care about the appearance of the console (because I have heard about ps5 being a bit more difficult to place).

I'm also planning on getting the monthly subscription and I have heard that the xbox game pass is better than playstation plus because it has more games?

In my country, Xbox series x costs around 500 dollars meanwhile a ps5 costs around 700 dollars. They are pretty expensive so I want to think hard before choosing. Which one do you think would be the best option for my case? Any advice and comment is welcome! Thank you for reading this far!

I've had both. Ps5 if exclusives are your thing +better controller(function) and built in audio/video recording

Series x for better performance overall, better design(easier to stick places) , controller is easier to deal with in terms of charging (batteries or official battery pack and def last longer on a single charge than PS5 dual sense) and gamepass is unbeatable.

I think the ps controller will be easier for me and I do like a lot of ps exclusives so a ps seems like the most ideal option for me so far. thank you for the info!!

Not trying to sway you one way or the other but to clear up the subscriptions, I have both Game Pass PC and PS Plus Premium. And a lot of people jump to the conclusion that Game Pass has more games when it doesn't necessarily.

You can get game pass for your laptop and it's $5 less per month than the Xbox version. It's $10 per month vs $15. $120 per year on PC or $180 per year on Xbox.

The PS Plus subscription actually has the same amount or more games than Game Pass for less money depending on which tier you get. PS Plus Extra is $100 per year and gives you the same 470ish games as XBOX game pass does for $180. It also includes many of the PS exclusives that are in running for GOTY every year. However, Game Pass has access to a lot of games that are relased on Day one. They aren't usually GOTY contenders or anything but there's value there for some people.

The PS Plus Premium tier adds another 300 games for a total of $120 per year. $60 less than Xbox game pass with 300 more games. It's about 800 games for the price of 2 per year. The caveat is that many (not all) of these games are ps3 games and they can't be downloaded to your drive so they have to be streamed. For some games, it makes them unplayable (input lag) but others it seems fine.

Another thing to consider is access to next gen games (current gen, really). One thing that no one seems to mention is that Xbox Series X/S only has 3 current gen exclusives. PS5 has about 7x that amount, many of which are award-winning. With the exception of Flight Simulator, Scorn (a walking Simulator) and Gotham Knights (also available on PS5), a last generation Xbox One will play all of the same games as Series X/S. You can get a used one for $100. Of course, everything will look and play much better on the Series X but the access to the games is still there.

For me, a Game Pass PC subscription and PS Plus Premium on a PS5 is perfect. I recommend the same for you. Maybe stick with PS Plus Extra but that $20 a year for another 300 games, even if some don't shine, is a good deal. Try the game pass on your current PC and then buy a PS5.

Xbox doesn't have any exclusives. You can play everything on your PC. They aren't expected to have any real heavy hitting, current gen games until next year. The only 2 that I can think of would be Starfield which has a release window of 2023 (my guess is 4th quarter if it doesn't get delayed to 2024) and Elder Scrolls which has no release window at all.

This should give you plenty of time to save up. Ideally to buy a better PC but a used Series X for $350 - $400 shouldn't be too hard to find a year from now.

Game pass isnā€™t good the thing is about game pass is that they just dump 100 + random games into the game pass but Sony has better games but fewer games. Quality over quantity

Tbh. Even though your laptop doesnā€™t run ā€œheavy gamesā€ you can still play most xbox games there, and you can always use xcloud. Get a Ps5, the series x would be wasting money. I myself had the ps5 a series x and a laptop with an 10th gen i5 and a gtx 1650. I just sold my series x cause it had been over 8 months since I last turned it on. Meanwhile I daily drive my ps5 and whenever I wanna play something from Microsoft I use my laptop or xcloud on my phone.

after a bit more research and reading the replies, I really think getting a ps5 is the most suitable option for me too. like you mentioned as well I could most likely play most games on my laptop with a game pass anyway. thank you for the advice!

Ps5 for the exclusive and the dualsense (which are awesome).

XboxSX for the gamepass.

Both machine are almost identical specs wise.

I personally am ps5 (always has been sony) and ps5 is perfect. Better games, VR compatible and better controllers.

the only thing i really use my series x for recently is backwards compatible games because my 360 is pretty loud, i mainly play ps4 but it depends on what type of games you like and what you plan to use it for

I really like the ps exclusives and other replies mentioned that the ideal choice would be to get a ps5 and get the pc game pass if I want to play any Xbox games. I think that's the most suitable option for me

The way I always answer this question, is THE GAMES! You are buying a video game console, for one simple reason: to play video games. Check the exclusives catalog for both consoles and try and make a list of games that appeal to you on both sides. If one side has more games listed than the other, that's the one you should get.
