I’d wait till PS5 is in stock it’s better for a PS fan. Especially if from 2013. If it’s like 3 months of something I’d just go with the Xbox

Are you wanting the X or the S? That’s a big difference. I’d go with the Xbox if you like Xbox exclusive games, also, Xbox is buying out activision which is HUGE. Playstation will now have to catch up after Xbox announced that buyout.

On the other hand, Playstation has ALOT of good games as well. It honestly depends on you.

Microsoft/Xbox has better pricing and availability and they also have some banger exclusives.

Sony/Playstation is more expensive but has better internals. They have less production so it’s hard to find. Playstation has great games & a HUGE library of exclusives. Almost 5 times as many as Xbox.

I'd advise everyone bar the most casual user against a Series S - no disc drive, much lower spec than the Series X/PS5, 350GB of usable storage (in the era of games clocking in over 100GB this just doesn't cut the mustard), and while the storage is expandable, it's also proprietary and very expensive (a 1TB upgrade is about 250 bucks, and it's also much slower than PS5 storage, the equivalent of which is usually - if not more than - 100 bucks less).

Exactly. The Series S is a trap for all but the most casual gamers. As soon as you get frustrated with the small storage and by the upgrade, you've almost paid for a PS4 or Series X. Not to mention the savings from physical discs.

The one time I saw it make sense was when my buddy got one for his daughter's college dorm room. She is a super casual gamer without much time for it.

It's a pretty cool little system for what it can dobut it's just very niche.

Yeah the storage is the real kicker. I know two people that bought one and got frustrated with it pretty quickly - especially when "Smart" Delivery forces you to install the Series version of a game if it's available. They had a few Xbox One games on an external HDD just fine which got ugrade, and were forced to install to the paltry 350GB.

If you’re still rocking a PS4 then I think the Series S is perfect for you. With gamepass and backward compatibility there’s plenty on the console to play at a fraction of the price.

Things to consider:

-Storage space is less than the Series X (which I assume isn’t too important to you at the moment if you’re on a PS4)

-Resolution on the Series S does not support 4K, however it does support 1440p (most people don’t own a 4K tv today so this may not be important)

Series S is a big upgrade from PS4.

PS5 is a big upgrade from series S.

No, not at all. The PS5 would play all your PS4 games and an Xbox would play exactly....zero.

With a PS5 you get to play your entire library of PS4 and what you get for PS5. And a technically superior console as well.

So far xbox buying activision hasnt changed anything, Cod won't come to gamepass for the next few years due to some bs sony contract, xbox won't get any exclusive content on there, Sony might even get cod on their subscription, everything will be released on ps too. I don't see how this will make anyone want to switch

Suppose it depends on what games you plan on playing really and what quality you want to play them in. If your just a casual gamer that plays fortnite, call of duty fifa ect id go xbox but if you play proper games like god of war, the last of us, uncharted red dead 2 then sort ps5 is the way to go.

I bought a Series S and couldn't bear to keep paying for a monthly subscription to Gamepass or paying the premium price for digital games. I sold it and went back to my PS4 Pro and it's huge catalog of pre-owned games. For me the digital only aspect was a problem.

Game's on the series s run really smooth, I got one about a week ago and the difference is night and day compared to the ps4 since that's what I was playing before. It's all I need as well since I think 4k is pointless and way too expensive. Just my opinion though since I know people will prefer graphics over how games play

I own a ps5 and a series s. The series s is an awesome console and should not be overlooked.

I find this gen has been more about quality of life and speed upgrades rather than anything dramatic in graphical output.

Quick resume is a game changer.

Series S is a massive upgrade also accounting for the price tag for it I have one and I couldn’t fault it your only downside would really be that you have no disk drive and also not that much storage and the storage upgrade is quite pricey

I would go for a digital only ps5 tbh, ps5 is a very big of an upgrade compared to series s. However, series s is a very good secondary console to ps5 imo because you can still enjoy gamepass and some xbox exclusives and play other games on ps5

SirGallyo t1_j24ifdc wrote

Yeah but I think they’re doing the at just because of the stock. Literally none are found so they need to make games for the PS4. When stock comes back and is consistent I think they’ll finally just make PS5 exclusives ONLY

The thing is as well you said you have never owned an Xbox. So you dont just get the extra power you get all the games you missed out on for years. Its 100% worth it. The only time I would say it isnt is if you had an Xbox One X

Yes, huge upgrade, the series S is next gen, and runs 4K (most people seem to think it can’t, but there is an option in video settings) smooth frame rates and a compact hardware design , storage space is not as big as the series X but buying an external hard drive is easy and pretty affordable, so yes definitely an upgrade from a PS4

BlackCondor24 t1_j2d0q1i wrote

Hardware wise, yes, absolutely. But the biggest major downgrade is that you cannot play physical games or resell any games from your library as they will all be digital on the Series S. There's also the fact that the PS exclusives are way better imo. Also the Series S is underpowered compared to the Series X or the PS5. So if any of this matters to you, I recommend getting the Series X if you want an Xbox, and the PS5 if you want to stick with Sony.

As someone who very recently upgraded from PS4 Pro to PS5, I can say the 5 is the best console I've ever owned and used so far (I've had a PS3 Slim and PS4 Pro in the past).

The PS4 has lasted longer than the PS3 did when it comes to AAA games. But that's because the PS4 is Sony's second most succesful console after the PS2. And since the PS5 came out during the pandemic, it's still quite a bit hard to find, though less so over the last year. There are still some PS5 Exclusive games released (Ratched and Clank: Rift Apart, Demon's Souls Remake, Returnal), and upcoming ones (Spider-Man 2, Wolverine). So we'll get there.
