Hi folks, I'm thinking to get an Xbox Series S.
I already own a PS5 but I'd like to try the GamePass and in general the Microsoft environment (always been a PS guy).
At first I was thinking to get a Series X, but I'm planning to get a gaming PC in a couple of years and I think it would then be wasted. Are you agree? (actually I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 not upgradable)
I'd like to play some games like Forza Horizon 4, some old titles, High on Life and especially when it comes out Starfield, i cannot miss this one. I tried to play Forza Horizon 4 on the PC but it's too painful .. infinite loading, bad graphic, lags, etc etc..
Do you think that the Series S is a good purchase? Will it last for another couple of years?
I have a 44'' 4K TV and a 27'' 2K Gaming Monitor.

thanks for your answer. Ok, I understand the storage issue. Luckly I usually don't play more than 2 games in the same time. So maybe it could be ok for me

It should be good then

I’d recommend an external usb HDD (doesn’t have to be an SSD) for older games that are in the backlog. Also if you want to move the new next gen ones over. Takes about 5 mins for forza to transfer in my experience.

Ah ok, so I could also use a USB HDD. But is there some games that will not work with it? Forza Horizon example. If I correctly understood, I could pass it to the HDD. But after can I play it or do I need to move it again on the console? I'm trying to understand how the HDD management works.

You can play Xbox One and older games off the HDD, but newer next gen games (series S/X games, there will be an icon) games off the SSD. But the new games can be transferred to the HDD for storage, but must be transferred back to play.
90% of the games on gamepass I play off my HDD. I play my series S regularly and I’m probably not considered a “casual” user anymore. However, I feel no need to upgrade to the series X because I play on a 1080p gaming monitor lol.

It's clear now. Thanks. The Series S maximum resolution is 2K right?? Now I have a very noob doubt. With the 2k monitor I should be ok.. but with 4K TV can i use the full Xbox resolution or will I be locked to 1080p?

It upscales to 4K and some games like the tourist will run 4k natively. But yeah, 1440p is the native max typically. It’s game dependent and also you can toggle performance versus quality mode in most games (forza 5 has it)
Unless your TV has HDMI 2.1 it won’t be too noticeable tbh. I borrowed a friends series X to compare when I was trying to decide if I wanted to upgrade. If I had a $2000 oled hdmi 2.1 tv? I get a series X because it’s gorgeous.
I have a Black Friday special 4K tv. 60hz. HDR. Looks brilliant with my series S. Looked basically the same on my couch with the series X lol.

Ok I get it. Yes, I agree with you about the 4k. Infact I'm very happy with my 2k 140hz monitor. I compared my 4k TV with the monitor and there isn't very noticeable differences. I must say that with the games that support 120hz I never used the 4k resolution but I always preferred performance. That's a noticeable difference. Some months ago ps5 started to support natively the 1440p at 120 Hz and with some games (like miles morales for example) it's a joy for the eyes.

Yeah it sounds like the series S will be a nice little placeholder. They go on sale too, my friend picked up one for $200usd right before Christmas, and it came with a gift card lol. Target I think.
It’s the perfect gamepass machine and it will be noticeably faster than your PC and you still have your PS5 for exclusives and games you want native 4K

I have a PS5 with PS Plus Premium and a gaming PC with Game Pass. Both played on my TV like consoles.
I have no need for any type of Xbox. I recommend you just get game pass PC. It's $60 cheaper than the Xbox Game Pass anyway.
But, if you want to try something new or have issues with your PC, the Series S is cheap enough to tide you over for a couple of years as long as you don't buy the memory expansion or too many digital games (specifically ones that would be significantly cheaper used).
If you just want a cheap Game Pass machine, you can find a used Xbox One for under $100 easy. The only games you'd miss out on would be Flight Simulator, Scorn (a walking simulator) and Gotham Knitghts (which you could get on PS5). Every other game can be played on an Xbox One, albeit at lower quality.
As I think this through for you, there's no shortage of Series X or S. You can try out the Game Pass on your current PC for like $1 I think. If you don't like it, you can cancel. There are no release dates for games like Starfield or Elder Scrolls 6 that will (presumably) be your 1st true current gen Xbox games. If you like the Game Pass on your current PC, you can wait until these games (or any other games you are interested in) have firm release dates. By then, you might be closer to getting your gaming rig or even picking up a cheaper Series X/S. The prices of these consoles will either stay the same or go down.

I've Ps Plus Extra on my Ps5 and some months ago I tried the Game Pass with the PC. I loved it. My feeling is that it's much better than the PS Plus.
But I was not comfortable with my PC for different reasons.
So the idea of a Series S.

Series s is good. But only thing is storage. (300mb useable) and if you go for an expansion for the storage. Your £70 off a series x because its so so expensive. So personally I'd say if you can afford it go series x. But if its only for ~3 games then series s is good.
