Any parents out there who own both a Xbox Series X and a PS5?

I have a Xbox Series X and a Series S at the moment after being in the PlayStation ecosystem during the PlayStation 4 era.

While I’ve enjoyed the swap, I’ve really been interested in checking out Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne along with some of the exclusive content coming to PS5 such as the additional quest and potion in Hogwarts Legacy and FF7 Remake’s next chapter.

I enjoy being able to play old 360 games and Halo on my Xbox and am also interested in the future of Microsoft after their recent acquisitions.

My question is this: As a father of two children, I don’t have a ton of time to game. I maybe squeeze an hour in here and there on weeknights and then dedicate up to two hours on Fridays and Saturdays, kids willing.

Would it be a worthwhile investment to purchase the PS5 right now and own both the XSX and PS5? Or am I perhaps alright on my Xbox for now?

I was thinking I’d probably sell the Series S to get a PS5 digital edition since I don’t use my Series S often anymore.

What are your thoughts? Does anyone out there own both while also having limited time due to parenthood?

Honestly, you have to look at the game libraries and functionalities, such as PlayStation VR and VR2. There are things that are only on one platform, and Xbox game pass is by far one of the best things on the market, but PlayStation now has a middle and high tier of membership that includes different game libraries, which has already saved me about $80 just for Christmas, compared to buying the game otherwise.

I have all three platforms for gaming, and I do most of my own on my computer. It can absolutely be worth it, but realistically I would have preferred to only have one, but console exclusives suck

I have both, also a parent with limited gaming time, I would just wait it out for a few years, you will get the exclusive games cheaper then anyway

Me too dude. I have both consoles and 2 children, one of them is 6 so I know your pain. I’ve invested in hardware for flight sim 2020 on Xbox too I get maybe an hour a day, if that.

I would personally say you're pretty safe to sell the Series S and get a PS5.
Right now the PS5 honestly doesn't have that many exclusives, the big ones I'd say are Demon's Souls, God of War Ragnarok, and Horizon Forbidden West.
For a heavy gamer I'd say it isn't worth it, they'd blow through those in a couple of weeks.
For someone playing only a few hours a week though, these titles should hold you over until more releases like Hogwarts and FF7R2 as you'd mentioned, as well as FF16.
If you can afford it and you want to play, I say go for it. You gotta spoil yourself a little sometimes, you know?

I use my PC like an Xbox and I have a PS5. My kids are grown and out of the house but I remember well waking up early on the weekends for some peace and quiet game time before the house wakes up.

You have to assess the libraries. For me, I want access to the most and best games. The PS5/PC combo gives that to me. Just researching the GOTY nominees over the past 12 years shows that Sony has 1-3 nominees (and often winners) every year. Microsoft studios are rarely ever nominated.

If getting a PC is not on your radar, then I'd keep the Series X and get a PS5. The PS5 PS Plus collection will give you about 17 bangers up front. The PS Plus Premium will get you about 800 games for $120 per year ($90 on holiday sale!). This includes almost all of the exclusives. The new games (like Ragnarok, for example) usually take about a year before they're added.

It couples well with Xbox Game Pass. I've probably played about 10 games on Game Pass this year. Mainly Halo, TMNT Shredders Revenge and a bunch of Indy titles. It costs more for less games but a lot of those games are day one releases. Unfortunately it costs more per year on Xbox ($180) than it does on PC ($120).

I don't like subscription services but 800 games for the cost of 2 and 450 games for the cost of 3 are both good deals.

I STRONGLY recommend getting the disk version of the ps5 (or any console, really). It will actually be cheaper than the digital version in the long run. Being at the mercy of waiting for a game to go on sale is no fun. Especially when the game is still more expensive than its physical version is year round. You can often find $5 - $10 copies of physical games that are $60 digitally. Just 2 of those will pay for your $100 disk drive. Borrowing/trading/selling used copies with friends/colleagues will save you tons over the console's life span.

I am a dad and I own both the PS5 and XBox Series X. I initially got the PS5 on launch date. My intention was to buy a series S when Bethesda was acquisitiond by Microsoft and realising that I have a 4k TV and that I probably wouldn't play the S due to the limited specs of the series S. To your question it depends on how you value PlayStation exclusives, unlike XBox game pass PlayStation don't release their XBox games on their service. I've not paid for a single game for the XBox apart from gamepass. But be prepared to shell out over £50-£70 per game.
