I’m in a predicament. I have a Nintendo Switch and was planning to get Hogwarts Legacy on it. After seeing that the switch release date has been pushed back, I’m reconsidering whether I should bother getting it on this console. I know PS5 has an exclusive quest which I don’t want to miss out on. I’m also worried about the game not performing as well on the switch.

I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and have been so excited for this game for so long. I am just stuck on what to do.

It's never worth it to buy a console to play one game. Especially when that game is available on other platforms too. If you have the budget and you intend to play other games after, the PS5 is a fantastic machine. Otherwise, just wait for the Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy or get it on PC. If you still want to buy a new console and save money, the Xbox Series S is an option.

Not if you only intend to play Hogwarts Legacy and that's it. But if you've been on the fence about buying one anyways, there are a lot of good exclusives for PS5, and Spider-Man 2 is coming out later this year. Also, a PlayStation exclusive Wolverine game is in development by the same people who make the Spider-Man PlayStation games. Its definitely worth it if you're wanting to play other games too.

Sure, after a long time of staying PlayStation exclusive. But OP said nothing about a PC, he only has a Switch based on his post.

A long time? Even Miles Morales is on PC

Yeah, almost exactly two years after the PlayStation release. Console release was November 2020. PC release wasn't until November of 2022. Two years is a long time.

You must be young. 2 years for a port the quality and standard of MM is nothing. GTA V took far longer and that wasn’t even an exclusive.

Blasto2236 - sure, if you wanna play your games at lower quality I guess

I’m not young and I consider two years to be a long time to wait. Given the amount of work it takes, is it actually a long time? No. But I’m also not going to wait two years to play games I’m interested in when there’s something that can play them now.

It could, it couldn't.. maybe you can just wait for the game to come out. In this way you'll know if it will be worth it. Let's all remember the cyberpunk lesson about the meaning of the preorders

My sensible head says no. My gaming head says, if you have the budget, go for it 😂 Treat yourself though and play the Uncharted series if you do get one.

The game will perform worlds better on PS5 over switch. I’m sure there are other games that will interest you. You should do it.

Do you plan on using the ps5 for anything else or just for 1 game?

I haven’t got any other games in mind but would probably buy some for the PS5 just because I have it

If you want a better experience and have the money then go for it. Though just for 1 game idk you need to consider all your factors.

Uncharted 4 and the uncharted the lost legacy are two of the best games ever made, alongside the witcher 3. Please try these out if you do get a ps5. Also maybe the two god of war games.

I’ve played one of the uncharted games on my brothers PlayStation before and loved it!

The prices of previous great PS5 games are dropping, so you'll have a lot to choose from at way below regular price. The Last of Us Remake will probably be $20 by the time you're done with Hogwarts. The Uncharted collection remake too. I think it's a good time to hop onto a next gen system

Wait and see how the game runs on Switch. "Exclusive" quests to one platform in these situations aren't worth mentioning, when it's only on one platform they can't do anything that matters to the story anyway in "exclusive quests". I've played games on PS3 where things like "60 minutes exclusive gameplay only on PlayStation" was just a minor side mission outside of the main story. Not bad, but not worth buying a whole other console over.

Usually when I consider buying a new console, I write down a list of 10-15 games I would buy for it. This may help you decide if this is thr right call for you.

Dont. You should not buy a console for one game. If you worry about performance, think about getting an xbox series s. The game should run fine on there and with gamepass you maybe could also try out some other games for little money.

The exclusive quest on PlayStation may be only a time-exclusive thing (I really don’t know), so it will come to other consoles eventually.

Get a ps5 because the switch version is going to look and run worse than the other consoles

Get an Xbox Series X 😎 If you want a slightly less powerful Xbox and more affordable alternative to the Series X or PS5, get the Xbox Series S. It’s a great option for Game Pass too and a way to play games you can’t get on Switch. Best combo of consoles imo.
