I am in a bit of a conundrum and I would really appreciate some guidance. I own an Xbox One X with a considerable library of games, both physical and digital, that I have acquired over the years and an active Game Pass subscription.

Problem is, the console seems to have some problems lately with overheating, i think some bad sectors on its hard drive and it is starting to show its age. Repairing it is not very cheap and I intend to buy a NextGen console but I really don’t know which one.

Should I stick with Xbox so I can keep my library and continue to play where I left of, or should I switch to Playstation, build up my library again in time, and take advantage of the exclusives like GoW, Horizon (and even exclusive quests like the one coming in Hogwarts Legacy).

Things to consider is that I really dislike Sony for their anti-consumer practices, like gatekeeping a quest on a game that costs the same across all platforms, but at the same time, their games are really good.

Another topic would be pricing, since I’m from a not-so-rich country in Europe, the Xbox here retails for about 620$, while the PS5 goes for about 900$, if you manage to find one.

What would you do? Thanks for reading this far.

I browsed some of the other questions that were similar but none of them had the difference in price mentioned, given that in the USA or more developed countries in Europe where the PS5 is more readily available, both the consoles retail for basically the same price.

I was just wondering if almost 300$ difference in pricing here is justified for the exclusive library that Sony has.

Only you can answer that question, it really boils down to if the exclusives that PS has are worth the extra dollars. Everyone will have their own personal take on it.

PS5 will give you access to an entirely new library. Series X plays all the same games as your One X but with higher quality.

You're not getting any new games with Series X.

I do get to keep my libray by not switching i guess. Also there are games not available on my One X. Like Medium, Scorn, the upcoming Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Starfield, Redfall. And basically every triple A exclusive that Microsoft will put out from now on, there’s a huge chance they won’t come to last gen.

AFAIK, there are only 2 games currently that can only be played on Series X/S/PC. Scorn and Flight Simulator. The Medium and Batman Gothic Knights are available PS5. Jedi Survivor will also be on PS5.

Starfield and Redfall will likely not be on last gen but neither of those have release dates. I think you have a good 6 months to a year to save up for a Series X (or PC) if these titles are important. That's assuming they don't get delayed. The longer you wait, the better.

I’d probably go series X considering many games from your library will run better with higher resolution and frame rates…

I have both and PS5 does feel more premium with outstanding exclusives - but that’s, like, my opinion.

Thanks for the input, I think I’ll gravitate towards xbox more given the fact that I already own some games and Game Pass being a great deal.

Do you have any games on both XSX and PS5? Do they run the same overall on both consoles?

No, I buy for one or the other (and usually base my choice on digital foundry analysis between platforms).

Elden ring, for example, runs better on PS5. If you haven’t already, check out digital foundry on the YouTube and you’ll see which games run better and where.

I have a xbox One x too and now have a PS5, the xbox still works so I figure I'll just alternate each time I get a new console.

Having access to all of your Xbone, 360 and OG Xbox games on the Series X is great. Adding disk based games and S/X Optimized games and Gamepass Ultimate and you're set. If you have a PC or plan to get one you'll be able to play a fair amount of the Sony exclusives as they're headed to PC after their playstation exclusivity ends.

Horizon and GoW are both coming to PC/already there. They aren’t exclusives any more
