You're not building a full PC setup that matches the PS5 specs for less than $500

A ps5 is actually over 1200$ after having to pay 80$ a year for 6 years to use your own internet to play peer to peer. You do not need a central server for peer to peer. Like torrents we don't need a central server it's a scam

You couldn’t build the same spec PC for the price of a ps5, graphics card alone would take up 70% of budget

PS5 is good especially if you have a TV that supports 4k or higher and hdmi 2.1 (maybe VRR) for smoother gameplay and make most out of PS5s power. It should last over 5 years and even if sony release ps6 it well know for them to keep older gen running for years to come. In term of durability of ps5 I dont know what a 5 year PS5 looks like so I couldnt guarantee that but so far it looks promising.

Just go for it. You have games listed that you want to play and 9/10 by the time these exclusives come to pc you will have lost interest in playing them anyway

I got the PS5 for the reasons you said above and I went for it, ending up fall in love with the interface of PS as well as how rewarding trophies are. I would recommend getting one and it will last you long!

IMO consoles ain't worth shit this generation. No worthy exclusives or experiences to justify the purchase. You can play almost everything on a PC for cheaper and same amount of hassle with updates and downloads. Even the new games have 1st day patches now. Just popping the disc in and playing isn't an option now.

But if you don't have a PC I guess going with Xbox this gen is better due to gamepass

Waste of money if you already have a PC remember they make you pay to use your own internet for peer to peer there does not need to be a central server for peer to peer to function it's actually backwards anyone who thinks servers need to be ran for peer to peer to function is an idiot who has never used torrents or doesn't understand how torrents p2p really works

If you asked this a year ago I’d say wait but now. Yeah it is there’s enough good games out that makes it worth it.

Go for something other than a white cover plate and controller.

Consoles are worth it as much as you use them. If PS exclusives are your cup of tea and you plan to play other games besides the exclusives on the PS5, then go for it. PS exclusives are coming between 6 months to 2 years to the PC, so it's up to you if you think waiting makes sense.

But, if I am honest, I would not buy an overpriced console just for two or three games. I would only buy it if I plan to invest on multi-platform games too (which is my case).

Well for a start God of War Ragnarök, The Last of Us and Ghost of Tsushima are not PS5 exclusives so that could help you make a decision

I'm a little disappointed in my PS5 to be honest. It's got great power and games look GORGEOUS on a 4k HDR TV. The controllers' haptic capabilities are fantastic in games that utilize it.

That being said, I also game on a mid level PC rig that would prob cost just a tad more than a PS5 on today's market. (It was near-high end when I built it 4 years ago). It plays games almost as well as the PS5. No ray tracing, but I tend to turn that off in favor of FPS anyway. I've not seen anything where it made a huge enough visual difference to warrant 30fps.

The storage situation on PS5 is abysmal. They only come with 1 storage option, and it's enough to hold only a handful of modern games. You can't expand it with a USB drive. You can attach a USB drive, but you can't play games from it. You have to shuffle games back and forth between USB storage and internal storage to play them.

I really like the hardware, but for the cost, I'm disappointed. For those reasons, I say it WONT last you 5 years. You will be banging against that storage wall, and all the games you wanted the PS5 to play will certainly be on PC. It may be 3 or 4 years after release, but they will def make PC releases with the success they have had doing so.

There's an m.2 that isn't difficult to get to on the PS5 that you can use to increase storage and not have to shuffle around games from a larger, slower storage option.

Your mid range PC that is both more expensive and runs games worse than a PS5 will just get worse over the next 5 years. It's laughable to say that a PS5 won't last you 5 years! My launch PS4 is still working well and traditionally games at the end of a consoles lifecycle look better than at the beginning using the same hardware.

Zaphod1620 t1_j3iio3j wrote

I didn't mean the hardware wouldn't hold up. My OG PS4 is also working just fine. I meant that in 5 years, bigger and bigger games will release, making that storage even tighter. And there is NO reason to not make external storage available to play from if it met reasonable speed requirements. I also meant I think all of PS's exclusives will come to PC (assuming a demand for it), just a year or so later.

Also, what you said about games being better optimized later for PS5 also runs true for PC games. Games may come out that your hardware isn't capable of, but downing the graphics settings will make it look like games did a couple years ago; exactly how it works with a console. For instance, while my OG PS4 works just fine, some things such as Miles Morales and GTA Online run like shit on it.

Edit: I'm not one of those people that say you can build a gaming rig for the same price as a console. I'm not, that's bullshit. But you can come damn close, and justify the expense with the MUCH better legs to expand in 5 years. There is no point in buying an Xbox unless you just really don't want to deal with a PC. Which is also fine, I couch game with my PC and it is a bit of a hassle.

This is just my opinion about the current PS5 state. If they come out with an improved model, as they typically do, that optinion might change.

FIFA 23 on PS5 ain't worth it can't lie it's so annoying with the button control softness but other than that it's all good for other games really good gaming quality and all round good performance for the price you pay
