To start...I owned every console until they started charging to use my own internet.

Simply put when you buy a PC you're investing in a platform that can be upgraded you won't in most cases EVER have to rebuy the entire thing again fresh with new input devices that only work on it.

In the long run consoles are much much more expensive.

Not only are games more expensive and on sale less often but unlike PC a console only has one place to buy their games their store. Sure you can use kinguine cdkeys.com. etc..but 99% of console gamers don't know how to do that.

Not to mention you're charged to use your own internet for peer to peer to function. 80$ a year for simply using your own internet.

P2P does NOT require a central server to function it's actually backwards and anyone who thinks it's needed has no idea how P2P works.

Torrents use peer to peer and if their was a central server the government would shut it down. You do not need a central server to matchmake online. You just dont it's a scam.

Consoles now charging for online are a scam. It's not needed.

  1. Wrong.

  2. You actually see the PC market, post-pandemic? Those components are overpriced and not worth it.

  3. Console games go on sale all the time.

  4. Consoles are sold at a loss. Manufacturers recoup those costs via subscriptions and games.

  5. Upgrading your PC still costs money. Depending on what you’re upgrading, you’re still paying more than a new console.

Consoles arent cheap. they let you off the hook when you buy the actual console, but after that, your bendt over grabbing your ancles by the console makers. No console store has close to the sales steam run all the time.Neither price or the the amount of titles. Buying your games at 100-110 bucks price tag, quickly renoves the investment saved on the the console, not to mention that the current gen consoles are already outdated. Sony is in the forefront of pushing prices higher on games, there playstation plus tiers and store are a complete joke.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but no.

Your rant sounds more emotionally charged with opinions rather than facts.

80dls a year is cheap. Amd you get around 30+ games with that. A new consoles costs 500 dls.

A gaming PC costs 1000dls, just to barely mimic a ps5 in power (4k-60fps). Buying a new gpu for instance will double that cost easily.

Games in the Playstation store go on sale very often. X-box has Gamepass.

Both have different pros and cons, but cost is definetely out of the question. PC are definitely more expensive.

Over black Friday you could build a PC for just over $700 with an rx 5700 and a 6700xt, which is significantly more powerful than either of the consoles. Price has increased some to around $750 now though, but still well under $1000 and it is more powerful.

2

FullMetalArthur t1_j3riei1 wrote

On black Friday then you could buy a console for 250 dls. I fail to see your point, is still 500dls cheaper. And I am not sure a RX 6700XT can manage 4k at 60 fps

2

FallenAdvocate t1_j3rjij3 wrote

For $750 you get a PC much more powerful than a $500 console. You can drop to an older CPU, and an older GPU to match the console power if you want. But yes, I wouldn't run the 6700xt at 4k native resolution, just like the consoles don't run 4k native resolution. But that console could easily play A Plague Tale: Requiem at 60fps, which the new consoles can't do. Same with Gotham Knights.

And going forward when more games on console are locked to 30fps, you would have the option of running those games at 60fps.

FullMetalArthur t1_j3rn9u4 wrote

Yes. We agree.

Technically you could hunt down components, have really good luck and with some effort you could save a couple hundred to match a console.

But in normal circumstances, a more "default" price would be near 1000. Take into consideration you must know what you are buying, do research, compare benchmarks, check compatibility, know what are you going to use your rig for, etc. With consoles you just buy it.

Surely next year will be even cheaper to build a rig like-new gen.

you don't need that much to buy a gaming rig i paid 182$ for mine and it runs games amazingly for a good rig you would be spending around $350 to $400 at most

The point was, with 200 dls you could have bought a ps4, and have access to games like God of War and Uncharted, including all the games you listed except the pc exclusives.

In counterpart, you could have bought a Xbox Series S with 300 and have even more games with a HUGE difference in power and performance.

Yes, you got a cheap rig, but the point was to equal the power in cost-effective way to consoles. Which you did not achieve.

FullMetalArthur t1_j41t8zc wrote

None of what you said had any significant impact in price for consoles vs PC.

The fact is that the initial cost or a pc of similar specs as a ps5 / xbox series x is hugely different. You pay half the cost of a PC and even with a subscription, you get 24 (or more) games a year. For the following 5 years, the moment you already spent nearly 1000 dls in PLUS f.e. you have now more than 120 games. So there is little logic in saying consoles are expensive.

If you compare AAA games, these are indeed 10 dollars higher. Which in the long run is not that much, since most lower their price in a few months. Unless you usually buy games on Day 1.

As I mentioned, cost is not one of the pros of a PC. Especially now in which a mid range gpu cost as much as a new gen console.

A ps5 Console in Canada is around 700$ after tax in Canada Ontario just the box then online for one year is 80$ + one new game at 100$ after tax.

Did anyone here unlike me actually do the math before posting.

In one year alone you spend 880$ cdn.

  • 80$ for the next 5 years until the next box is out. We already paid for one year so that's at 1280$ cdn. Like I said the cost of a full brand new computer.

And kiddos you do not need to buy the brand new Nvidia 4090/80/70

An AMD 6600xt is much more powerful than a gpu in a ps5 and it's only 300$ before tax.

That was all I had to pay to keep up this gen with my PC build over the last 3 gems.

I could actually buy another Series X and 15 years of Gamepass Ultimate for approx the same money.

If I remember right the GPU alone cost twice as much as a Series X or PS5.

I think your salty that your parents never bought you a console :) /s

You are so wrong. I could have bought 4 Xbox Series X for the cost of my gaming PC and I'm not gonna spend that much on subscriptions for it over the lifetime of the console. The store thing is true but I haven't actually bought a single game for the Series X as I just use gamepass.

PCs aren't that upgradable. Short term, of course they are, memory, GPU, storage. But on the timescale of console generations (5-7 years) absolutely not. A commodity PC that is half a decade old can only sensibly be upgraded by replacing it. You might get 10 years out of a really well made and specced PC by upgrading it along the way, but that would have cost much more than a console to buy in the first place, let alone the subsequent upgrades.

I know you’re saying that it’s expensive to buy a ps5 in Canada but across the pond it’s £445 for disc version and I don’t HAVE to get a psn account. A PC would cost me £1200 minimum for a good one that’ll run the games I want to play so there’s no way it’s cheaper in the long run. Especially if a component breaks or is outdated cause the price of them is overly inflated.

Digital download games go on sale on console quite regularly these days, there's a big January Sale going on on the PS4 & PS5 PlayStation Store at the same time you posted this. Maybe sales were less frequent on the PS3 PlayStation Store, but things have changed since then. Physical games on console are also still very much around, so unless you bought a PS5 Digital Edition or Xbox Series S you do have more than one place to buy games from on console.

Scorpiogamer2017 t1_j3ol1y4 wrote

The only way a console is more expensive is when you decide to upgrade the console the next year or two because something new came out. In the long run yes a pc is cheaper. Just not right away. The cost of a GPU is still a mortgage payment if not more.
