Will I regret getting the Series X?

I'm very lost at the moment, I ordered a Series X a few days ago along with a gigabyte m27q , currently I have an Xbox One S connected to a cheap 1080p montior, when I booted up the One S for the first time in a while recently I noticed how sluggy it seems now especially compared to a gaming pc (entry level) that I built a couple years back. So I figured I'd want to play my games on a better but familiar system, hence the Series X, PS5 was completely out of the picture.

Now my friend is considering getting a PS5, he's convincing me to go for the same too, for a better controller the exclusives and such.

For me, The Xbox Series Controller which I have for the One is fine, also I don't mind waiting until I buy PS5 or its mid-gen refresh a few years down the road after I finish my degree to play GoW, GoT and such.

My question is, will I regret just going for the Series X in the meantime? Is it worth dealing with the headache of returning my Series X order for what the PS5 has to offer?

Some games I'm going to play:

  • RDR2 (replay): I'm replaying the game and I'm still at 20% but I haven't played for two weeks now just cause I'm eager to see how it looks and performs on next gen consoles.

  • Witcher 3: Haven't played it and I'm pretty excited to try it.

  • COD MW2: I have it on my pc but I think I'll play it more on the console since the console would be more accessible for me, the pc isn't in my bedroom.

  • AC Odyssey: As far as I recall it's on Game Pass for now.

  • Skyrim: Same thing as Witcher 3 but I had played it for a couple of hours before on the One.

*Starfield: if I go for the X.

AoE4: Same as before, played it before on the pc.

What makes me lost isn't the fact that PS5 has superb exclusives but that Xbox has yet to have that many decent current gen releases of its own.

UPDATE: Since I have the One S and the gaming pc I've realised the Series X would be a bit redundant since all the games out there currently for the Xbox I can play on either systems, but with the PS5 I get to play many wonderful Singleplayer exclusives that I wouldn't get to try otherwise, hence I'm going to try to cancel my Series X order and when I get my refund I'll go for a PS5!

The exclusives is the primary reason to get a PS5 imo. If they don't interest you at all, then the Series X will provide you with a lot of the same features as the PS5. In fact, the majority of multiplatform games will be coming out for it, so it's not like you won't have anything to play. Especially now, when we're just getting into the 9th generation. If a lot of the exclusives appeal to you, you should get the PS5 instead. Even now, it's the greatest console I've ever used. And I've had a PS3 and PS4 Pro as well. But whether or not it's worth it for you, depends on the games.

I prefer console gaming rather than PC and honestly don't think you can go wrong with either console.

Right now, Xbox only has 3 current gen games. Your xbox one can play everything else. Which is crazy 2 years after launch. Your PC can play all of them.

I don't see the point of having a PC and an Xbox. PC gives you access the Xbox games and game pass is cheaper.

I always recommend a PC and PS5 and it sounds like you already have a PC...

I haven't cared much for either, I have mostly played multiplatform games the whole time. I still don't know if I would like the PS5 exclusives.

The games that you named are almost all single player, and they are last gen and will be awesome on either console. But yeah find out if the games you want to play are cross platform or not so you can play with your friend. Don't let other people push you or convince you so easily.

Most if not all mutiplayer games we used to play on last gen were cross-platform fortunately.

Fortnite, COD, Battlefield, Rocket League..

I have my XsX day one and still not regret. it's a superb console whit games pass ultimate. I play Age of empire on my PC and I play at my job games whit the cloud. Fortnite play well on the cloud. 2023 will be a great year for Xbox and game pass. I wait for a slim version of the PS5 and then all day exclusive a miss will cost me less. So no you will not regret 😝😝👍👍. But I play whit my friend a lot online. Xbox have many games that are crossplay whit pc. one have xbox two are on PC and its work very well whit good Headset. If your friend are on PlayStation. You should play whit them so go for a PS5. You could always play Xbox game on PC. 👍

I recently picked up a PS5 Digital to go alongside my Series X.

If all you want to play is multiplat games, multiplayer games, backwards compatible games, and/or games that are currently under the Microsoft umbrella, I think the Series X is a very great machine. It runs everything well and went above my expectations when it came to game performance, load times, and user friendliness.

That being said, I have also really loved having a PS5 so that I can play not only the exclusives, but also games that fully utilize the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the PS5 controller.

To me, the PS5 feels more “next gen” and if you can do it, eventually it would be worth it to own both as both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I have tended to play my PS5 more these days, but that simply is because I’ve been enjoying the exclusives while I wait for Xbox to do something in 2023.

I have both. Have had them since launch. I only play exclusives in the PS and play everything else on the series x. I love that it’s updated quite a few older games with better resolution and/or frame rate.

Heck no you will love having a Series X, plus get Gamepass Ultimate and you'll have access to 100s of games, all the Xbox/Microsoft exclusives, plus EA Plus and PC Gamepass exclusives. Although you'll have to expand your storage for older games and most current generation games need the faster 1TB storage 😊👍🏼

Hell no. I've got my series S since 2020 and still love it. I can't afford a good pc or a series X ( I live in Brazil unfortunately), so for me it works really well.

Go for Xbox, better controller (my opinion, others may disagree), better peripherals (you can use mouse and keyboard in some games), 4 generations of console games available in one package, and gamepass, which gives you all of the upcoming first party games on release eay, and a heck of a good library besides that!

If you mostly play multiplat games I don't see how you'd regret it. Honestly that's most games that most people play anyway. Plus it's been pretty rough the last couple years but when MS does (hopefully!) start dropping all of these exclusives they have in the works each one you're interested in is a $70 game you won't have to buy.

I personally only pick up my PS5 when a new exclusive comes out and I think the controller is cool but massively overrated. I'd like it a lot better if they'd crammed those cool new features into the DS4 form factor.

If you're interested in those PS5 exclusives though, and not just the Sony ones but FF and such too, it's definitely worth picking one up eventually. Looks like we're going to start getting more games that are actually made for the current gen this year so it's a good time to pick them up I think.

With Gamepass you’ll benefit on both PC and the series X, alongside the cloud gaming it offers to boot as well. As you have a decent gaming pc I’d wager that Xbox is the better choice here, if only for the flexibility it’ll offer you in how you engage the content you want.

Gamepass is very good with over 500 games and you get gold,game pass,and ea play if you buy xbox live ultimate which all of that is just $15 a month, we have good exclusives,and backwards compatibility.

They really are both great systems. Depends on what you like as far as gaming. Me, Starfield is what I am waiting for. Sony has some awesome exclusives if you like those. I own FF7 remake and FF14 on my ps5, that’s it. I have always just been MS and xbox, always felt right for me.

Why get the PS5 or the Xbox? Most of Sony’s exclusives are/have come to the PC, and all of Xbox’s do.

I’d return the Series X and upgrade your PC with the money. Used parts are selling v affordably atm.

Thing is, the pc is shared with my brothers and isn't in my room so it isn't accessible for me all the times, So I gotta have two systems.

Ahh ok. Even for the cost of a Series X, you can get a pretty decent PC from used parts these days. Look into it - I picked up a 3800x the other day for £100. 3700x usually goes for that. So:

3700x: £100 16gb RAM: £50 Case: £50 Mobo: £50 PSU: £60 SSD: £50

Leaves you £90 for a GPU if you MUST match the Xbox. I’m seeing 6800s go for £250 on eBay. You could probs get some of the above parts cheaper too, but for £160 more than an Xbox you’ve got a whole gaming PC which can play all the Xbox games, PC games and most PS5 games, with free online and cheaper games making up most of the £160 difference (games usually £20-30 cheaper, live £50 a year etc)

I know I read it, looked around ebay and other places, not finding your prices. Moot point though since I have no place to put a PC. I plan on having a gaming pc in maybe 5-6 years. Also, this is just me, buying a used console is one thing, a used pc in anyway is not happening.

Used PC parts about as reliable as a used console. Are you based in the US? Maybe some confusion as my numbers quoted are GBP.

I am unfortunately in the U.S. And I need a small desk for a pc just for keyboard and mouse, tried using a wireless keyboard on a tray, not a me thing. Like I said as soon as I can, I will have a gaming pc with a proper setup, for now the consoles work just fine. there will get sold at some point i’m sure. Not in to much of a hurry, have a game library of close to 1500 games, can’t just up and ditch them since I can’t sell them

Ahh - in that case my numbers won’t work for you as they’re GBP. Most PC games use a controller natively - my brother plays his on a TV with one at his flat
