For me the advantages of the PC were graphics, speed, variety of games. That said I am old, consoles managed to close the gap to the PC around the XBox360 era. It was at this point that ports of PC games started appearing on consoles without being too badly compromised. Nowerdays, consoles are cheaper, easier to use, and fast enough.

Optimization. I've always had a good gaming pc with bunch of consoles. When I tried games on both consoles and pc I realize that experience on consoles is better most of the time. While on pc you can get better visuals, better fps etc if you have a powerful one. But on consoles games runs more smoothly with less bugs and glitches. Most games desings for consoles and then ports to pc I think and that's why gaming on consoles may give a better experience to players.

I'll add to these
- Software doesn't break by user action or other installed apps, no viruses etc, no slowdown with time, no OS reinstall needed
- No launcher for games, overall start time is much quicker
- Cloud save for all games on Xbox, you change the console and all your progress is with your account
- Mental separation between fun on console and work on PC
- No fiddling with game options to find the best detail level for the hardware
- Be a part of home/family life in the living room, instead of being hidden away in a home office separate room.
- No need to chase hardware upgrades as time passes and games become more demanding
- No need for fiddling to run old games, if they are supported then they just work. Also no risk of losing games due to system/software changes after 5-10 years.
Some of these are from my experience. I was playing on computers (not only PC) for 30 years and then switched to consoles just a few years ago, that was life changing for me.

I own a PC that is smaller than a Series X, works with a Xbox controller and is set up on my TV which allows me to play games, watch movies, search the web etc from my sofa. Also, I don't need to buy a console and a PC, so it saves money and space. So that makes your points 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 moot.
Having said that, allow me to add to your list. 1.Consoles have far better support for friends, chats / groups, achievements, making them a more social experience out if the box. 2. Games run well without having to tweak settings.

pick up and go: no messing about with opening launchers and launcher-specific updates
-
no clunky OS: you don’t have to mess about with windows OS or anything, it’s all tailored around minimalism and gaming
-
optimised: game devs only have to design and prepare the game for a couple different consoles’ hardware, so it can be very very tuned to work well with that specific hardware
-
it just works: no faffing with different drivers or incompatibility

As far as I'm concerned, the controller does not allow you to fully use your PC. For instance, if I'd like to open Steam or any other launcher I'd still need to use Mouse and Keyboard to open the launcher and game before I'm actually using the controller.
What are the specs of this computer? I really doubt it's any better than a PS5/XSX. And how much did it cost?

PrinceDizzy t1_j4fzcgd wrote
Cheaper.
Ease of use, simplicity and all round less hassle.
Big budget AAA exclusives.
Option for buying physical copies/used games market.
Hackers not ruining games.
No launcher bloat - Not having multiple clients, accounts, passwords, stores, launchers like Steam, Uplay, Battlenet, Origin, Epic Store, etc.
Exclusivity deals/content - publishers/devs tend to do deals with console companies which offer content, dlc or even whole games which may come to console before PC.
Split screen and local co-op.
Big developers tend to prioritize consoles (Rockstar etc)
Most Japanese games and developers prioritize console.
No system requirements.
Less bugs/issues/crashes etc
No Denuvo DRM.
HDR support is prioritized for console games and big screen tv's.

Value to performance when buying everything new consoles are cheaper, but PCs being upgradable without having to replace everything brings hardware costs down over time, games on PC are also cheaper
-
Building a PC is incredibly simple, anyone who can follow basic directions can do it, it's like Legos
-
PCs have more controller options than consoles
-
While the set up can be more complicated, you can set it up to have a very console like experience
-
PC can connect to to virtually any screen
-
You can put a PC in your living room and play from a couch or chair
-
PCs don't really take up any more space than a console
-
There are many form factors for PCs, many of which are smaller than modern consoles, and because you can connect it to any screen you don't need to bring anything more with a PC
lacaras21 t1_j4g9ocb wrote
As an avid PC gamer, these are the benefits of consoles:
-
Exclusive games
-
Generally a better couch co op experience (better support mostly, especially for Nintendo Switch)
-
Specifically the Nintendo Switch is portable (Steam Deck is an alternative, but with how good Nintendo exclusives are I prefer the Switch, Switch has the added benefit of the joy cons being separate controllers so you can play co op without a TV or power hookup)
-
Competitive online games usually have fewer hackers (this is more relevant for older online games, new games (games being actively supported or came out within the last few years) don't usually have hackers on PC as well, but as a game gets older hacking becomes more common on PC especially)
Zaphod1620 t1_j4gh85x wrote
One I haven't seen mentioned: multi user support. You can easily flip between different users on consoles. It's more complicated on PC. A lot of gaming centric apps like launchers do not like running on two user accounts at the same time on PC. Also, PCs these days don't really shut down. So when you turn one on, you don't know if someone else is already logged in until you log on and start getting "an instance of this application is already running" errors. In that case, you have to open up Task Manager, log out the other user, then log out and log back in yourself.
I love my gaming PC as a couch gaming rig, but it's a pain in the ass sometimes.

Well, in 2023, the advantage is that you don't need $5000 to own a console. Next Gen... who knows? Maybe the console makers will try to get in on the price gouging and try to rape us too.
EggImperium t1_j4ixqz1 wrote
Console hardware manufacturers have a software submission process to ensure a standardization of the system and brand experience. A software cannot get on the market on that platform without passing submission. While not foolproof, like some issues get waived/get fixed later, but the games are at least garanteed to run on the system.
