Wow, that's high praise! I loved Russ Nicholson's work, particularly in the old AD&D Fiend Folio rulebook.

Fighting fantasy books were my introduction to rpgs and to fantasy beyond lotr. Russ' illustrations set the scene for that for me. Especially undead and creatures in grimy sewers, dungeons or caves.
