I think that was definitely an inspiration I just couldn't remember where I saw it. Such a simple yet powerful image that stays with you.

Negation_ t1_j39bq29 wrote

Yours is definitely better because you added something in the darkness. I hate turning up the brightness on my phone only to be disappointed lol

ChangelingFox t1_j3aqb66 wrote

Honestly I disagree greatly. Being able to see the "threat" in pictures like this diminishes it immensely in my opinion. Pictures like this are more frightening when the mind is left to invent what's waiting in the dark. No dot eyes or spooky face matches the anxiety of the unknown.

Im 100% with you. In a similar way, most of the scariest horror movies and books have left a lot to the audience's imagination.

Kinda like how when the mechanical shark from the first jaws movie kept breaking down they realized it’d actually be scarier and more tense if you rarely ever saw the shark

similar but it's the door at the end of the hallway that gives me the chills

I had the same thought - It’s almost so on the nose that I have to imagine it’s at least an influence. A combination of the hallway poster and the dog poster

I've actually never seen those but I can definitely see the similarities. I'll have to watch movie now

One of my dogs ALWAYS does this. She’ll just stand in the hallway and growl into a room. Drives me insane.

Bitter-Basket t1_j38bj38 wrote

My German Shepherd years ago would do that. And patrol at night. There was zero chance of anyone even stepping into the yard without her knowing. My current dog curls up in a little ball on the couch and sleeps all night.

38

Sometimes_Stutters t1_j38c64z wrote

I always wondered how my dogs would react to a threat to our home. About a year ago a guy tried entering my front door at 2am and my dogs went berserk.

We then bought a home camera system and learned that our dogs literally sit guard all night while we sleep.

29

Bitter-Basket t1_j38dics wrote

Lol. What is good about that, aside from the warning, is that thieves hate dogs. They don't know if it's a biter or a barker. So they usually move on. I like having a dog and my cameras.

My current dog barks maybe once a month, but when he does - better come running because something is going down.

sygnathid t1_j38j1z3 wrote

One of my friends has dogs, her boyfriend went to the bathroom and the rest of us went to hide to prank like we left the house because he was taking a long time. The dogs seemed to sense that we were hiding from him, postured defensively between him and us and even barked at him when he came out.

He's not even a stranger, they've been together almost a decade, one of the dogs prefers to cuddle with him instead of her, they just read those situational cues a little wrong. They would almost certainly attack a stranger if their owners were hiding and actually scared.

I was searching through the EBM selection on Bandcamp last night and found an artist called Dog Mask. This looks sort of like a more detailed version of the album art for Liminality by Dog Mask, better yet there's even a dog in the picture here. Though I gotta' say this art looks gloomy, it's fantastic.
