Why do they swab prisoners arms with alcohol right before injecting death drugs?

I mean, putting a % number seems like the minimum thing to do?

Terrible sad stats. Amazing that Americans tolerate this official barbarism. Locking people up with execution hanging over them as they gradually die off from suicide and natural causes is sorta like torture isn’t it? It would actually be more humane to quickly carry out the sentence.

Because it’s standard operating procedure.

Even if that specific step of the SOP is not necessary in this instance, it’s still good practice for the administer in general so that it becomes second nature.

That is a high suicide rate.

Well there is a chance they will survive the execution. Many ppl have survived executions before. Its more common than you think.

Most people on death row - dont even end up dying from executions. They die of natural causes, suicide, or murder.

Depressing. If I ever get to death row while innocent, I would welcome a fast trial and fast death like in China.

How the hell are these guys getting enough drugs on death row to overdose?

Isn't "overdose" and "executed" basically the same category?

it would be, for those that end up being executed.

another way to look at it is that the waiting period invites the possibility of new developments. it'd be a shame for an incorrect verdict leading to the immediate execution of an innocent person, when new evidence exonerating them may have been found in the next year or two.

not sure how often that happens though...

Isn’t everyone’s death pending?

Sounds like a waste of money to let all those ppl die naturally

They know that execution is not going to happen. And the horror, pain and suffering their victims and their families endured is unimaginable. I don't feel bad for them - at all.

Mother of hell. Barely 10% executed. If you are going to have death penalty, mean it, kill them next them next morning not rarely ever. F that!
