Yea, I think you need to clarify.

Looks like you are mixing series and movies hence the super short "movies"

No. There are such things as short films. There's an Oscar category for them, so some get released. In the 1940s, they were guaranteed to be included in the theatrical mix. They were the way to get news until television national news was invented. And many of the older theatrical cartoons were really short.

Interesting idea for a plot, but it looks wildly inaccurate. There are probably no true modern "movies" which are less than an hour long. Also, your categories are lacking, given that the majority of the plot is black (which is also the least useful category), and the legend should be color coded as well, and likely better off in the top left corner of the plot instead of below it. Title and axes could use proper title-capitalization.

Needs work. 3/10.

Black is the standard fictional film. That is the most common type and had better be the most common type.

Super_Automatic t1_ixwx9g4 wrote

Not in the pic though, it says black=others.

Yes. OP's misfortune to fail to name the most common type of film in their key. I could figure it out from elimination -- there shouldn't be many other types of "other." But making the typical film "other" is like having most of your moving boxes marked "miscellaneous."

What's the movie that is over 300 minutes (which is 5 hours)?

DestroyTheGhettos t1_ixsqr5q wrote

Lawrence of Arabia (1962) is one of the best movies on Cinema history and it is 222 minutes long (almost 4 hours) 😁

There are also at least a couple of very popular films very long. But i don't remember but it's name.

What happened between 1943 and 1948?

Lots of war movies and propaganda, probably.

Shortages on materials to make films that weren't war movies or propaganda. After 1945, the rise of low-budget filmmakers. Short films had no stigma before television was common, and that didn't start before 1948.

if you're doing it in python, maybe try to plot it as a box plot. It's quite a mess rn.

Violin plot might also be useful here. Or at the very least giving each dot some transparency, so they don't obscure the data underneath.

They have both advantage and inconvenient, they both suit to this type of data though for sure.

I’m just curious, is there anything special or surprising to see here? Looks to me like, there’s simply more movies over time.
