How are they still called “New York” Giants/Jets when they don’t even play in that state?

they are based in the new york metro area and most of their fans are from the new york metro area. same reason it's called the las vegas strip and not the unincorporated clark county strip

NYC is closer to Jersey's Capital then New York's Capital. The entire area is very confusing.

How TF is this being downvoted? It's measurably true. Trenton NJ is 68 miles from midtown Manhattan; Albany is over twice as far.
Also closer to midtown Manhattan than the capital of New York: the capital of Connecticut, the largest city in Pennsylvania, the largest city in Delaware.

When New Jersey hosted the Super Bowl, the NFL essentially hermetically sealed the state, so that every dollar of revenue generated was spent in New York.

Because New Jersey wouldn't have gotten those teams if not for the proximity to NYC.

Imposter syndrome.
They don’t want the world to know they’re from New Jersey or they’d be seen as frauds off the football field too.

Because they think that being from New Jersey is an insult to the elites in New York. I’ll take the Jersey shore over the South Bronx any day! And so would they!
