Hello Deep learners!

I want to upgrade my veteran 1050 Ti for training deep models. I have a limited budget so I consider to buy RTX 2060 or RTX 3050. However I can't decide which to buy. The 2060 is more powerful but its 6GB memory can be a painful like my 1050. On the other hand, the 3050 8GB memory is good but it is not recommended in any deep learning blogs and it has a lower performance in some games. I'm confused. Help me which of these cards I have to buy.

update 1:

Finally I decide to buy a RTX 3060 12GB. Thanks to all contributors.

Higher memory is generally better for deep learning tasks. Specially with the size of models now

2060 with 12g vram definitely better.

Tesla p40 is also a good choice,it is slower but 24g vram for less than 150$(modification required).

As far as i know, yes. At least in China. You can get p40 for about 130$.

Dont worry, its not fake, it just come from old server retired by the company.

In China, electronic components are much cheaper, so creazy thing always happens.

I just modified my 2080ti to 22g and it worked just fine.

Used RTX3060 would be better, with 12GB VRAM too. It helped me greatly. what is your budget ? even new 3060 is around US$300 here.

in my country both of them are near 300$ but 3060 is around 400$. If I want to upgrade to 3060, I have to upgrade my psu that cause me an extra cost!

get a used card (may be $200 ?), not brand new. PSU are not that expensive now (may be $50?), I used to have a 450W Silverstone 80+ Bronze with Ryzen5600x + RTX3060, it worked well.

Anyway, you will need a PSU for RTX2060 as well. RTX2060 & RTX3060 has almost same power requirement.

That's wonderful! hope it will be helpful for you :) You could do proper gaming with that too, I played Cyberpunk 2077 @ 1080P with Ray tracing Ultra preset with DLSS at about 55-60 fps

  1. 3 times the tensor cores and 1.5x the bandwidth. 6 and 8gb really ain't much.
