Extra Mozzarella on top, honey, Dijon sour cream, lao gan ma, crispy onions and pickled chillis. Possibly the dirtiest thing I've ever made.

The lao gan ma is an inspired touch. Bravo!

It's so damn good I want an excuse to put it on everything.

What is Lao gan ma?

umbertobongo OP t1_j8k8z5w wrote

It's a Chinese condiment made with chillis and oil, and often other things like garlic, nuts, black beans. It's spicy and addictive and goes brilliantly on a whole host of foods.

Oh well thank you for telling me, I’d never heard of it.

It’s sometimes called “chili crisp”. They have an okay version at Trader Joe’s, but the kind at an Asian market is tastier.

So those are egg-soaked slices?

How'd you French toast the pizza?

11

umbertobongo OP t1_j8ikhyu wrote

Seasoned egg, soaked then pan fried in butter. In the oven on a rack just to melt the extra cheese on top.

dj92wa t1_j8j8t7h wrote

How did you season the egg? Traditional French toast stuff like vanilla, cinnamon etc? Or did you use savory thing? Just salt and pepper?

4

thesausboss t1_j8k7qfm wrote

I would imagine salt and pepper maybe other savory seasoning, since the "French Toasting" seems to be just the method of making a "Pizza dough"

dj92wa t1_j8kb7vo wrote

Figured that might be the case, but you never know...people do some wild things combining sweet and savory, and sometimes they just work, and I'm all about that!

OP you have thrilled in an era where little thrills, and inspired me at a time where little inspires.

Is this a thing? Do you use French toast. Is it sweet crust? So many question.

3

MinnieShoof t1_j8k2htw wrote

It's left over pizza that they french toasted. Not french toast that they pizza'd.

6

kafromet t1_j8kiksj wrote

You french toast when you should pizza, you're gonna have a bad time.

4

umbertobongo OP t1_j8k79b1 wrote

It's just using cold pizza instead of bread. No cinnamon just salt and pepper.

Where did you get the pizza? It's hard to tell in this pic but it looks more like the stuff my moma made then what you get from a pizzeria
