Did you use butter on the bread?
Organic-Activity8762 OP t1_j9pdpox wrote
yes but i was doing like 3 things at the same time and it got away from me. i don't mind though.

Lol when I overcook it I turn that side down on the plate so I can at least try and fool myself it's not burnt. Don't listen to the haters. What's a grilled cheese if you haven't burnt one side haha

the other side is was the same. i typically start with a cold pan but i let it go too long cuz i was distracted. when i did the flip the pan was wicked hot and just char fucked it on that side too. not the first time and won't be the last.

“Wicked hot” a fellow Bostonian?

Well greetings from Boston, I’d eat that sandwich no questions asked looks good

No no, I'm not judging. I was just going to suggest trying mayo if you never have. In my experience, it takes longer to burn, making the bread crisper but less burnt.
Even if your sammich was perfect, I would have suggested it.
Enjoy!

I saw a housemate doing this with mayo and I thought he was cracked. Is it actually good?
MushroomLonely2784 t1_j9po3xi wrote
You won't notice a difference in taste.

I noticed a taste difference.

What kind of mayo and butter did you use?
simplymandee t1_j9r33rc wrote
Hellmans. And butter gaylea typically.
MushroomLonely2784 t1_j9r3pa5 wrote
Interesting. Well, I've never noticed a difference in taste 😅
I've even served grilled cheese to folks who claim to hate mayo, and they've never said boo.

I like mayo which is weird lmao I don’t like it for grilled cheese haha
MushroomLonely2784 t1_j9r7l68 wrote
That is odd, lol. But to each their own!

I made grilled cheese with mayo tonight. It was delicious, and I did not notice a difference. 2 year old cheddar, bacon, Doritos, fried up nice and crunchy. Everything I hoped it would be

Whoop! 😁

Exactly.

Yes, it is magical, but use very little. I love mayo on most stuff, but for this application just spread some on and scrape most of it off. Maybe add a sprinkle of grated parmesan and you have a tasty, crunchy sammich.
Organic-Activity8762 OP t1_j9pehx9 wrote
all good, and i have tried mayo. that's when i realized why i preferred homemade grilled cheese to diner grilled cheese.
MushroomLonely2784 t1_j9pet0o wrote
Touche lol
Well enjoy! Take care!

I’ve heard that, too. A combo of butter with a little mayo works for me.
