I seem to recall having worked out that it is about 15% of the cost of commercially made (which in my area is about $40/lb.) if you make it yourself even from the most expensive salmon.

You can get it a lot cheaper at wholesale clubs. Sam’s club had a pound of smoked salmon for about $15 the last time I was there. Nothing better than a golf New York bagel with cream cheese, nova, red onion and capers
