Never heard of cheese in fried rice, sounds sickly but I might have to try it anyway

Koreans actually do this all the time. You should use a very mild cheese though.

Korean. There was a big push by the government somewhere around the late 60s to increase dairy consumption, for some reason, and it just stuck.

So relatively new, but very common comfort food. Kind of like Japanese curry.
