Oh man. My grandma from Scotland used to make this. God I haven’t had a puff pastry in so long. Enjoy.

Beats the hell out of Dinty Moore, that’s for sure! Beautiful stew. What cut of beef did you use?

I don't know why people are downvoting you, it looks exactly like dinty moore and there's no reason that that And home cooking can't both be good.

Just made a dumb joke about dinty moore being good but people don’t like that :(

I've tried using red wine in stew but it always tastes funny so I just go with beer. I even used a orange beer once and there was a faint orange taste that wasn't bad

I use Blue Moon to braise chicken thighs and squeeze the juice from 2 oranges in it. It's fantastic.

For beef stew with red wine, try adding some soy sauce, a ton of minced garlic, and a bit of sugar. It should taste like a Korean BBQ stew when you're done. The sour flavor from the red wine should get balanced by the salty and sweet, with the garlic to give it a nice aromatic kick.

Oh wow that sounds yummy...I'll definitely try that. I didn't have enough knowledge at the time to think of how I could perfect it so I just went with the beer as my husband and two sons are picky rolls eyes lol but thankyou!!

You have to cook it down first

Crymsm t1_iy89leb wrote

I know I did it in the crockpot but don't remember if I did cook it down or not. It's been years

Sure you reduce the wine enough to burn off some of the alcohol?

flipz444 t1_iyamsdk wrote

Yeah dude, that's soup. It's clearly too thin to be stew. It looks like really good soup though.

Well looks must be decieving because it was not soup. Lol It was the consistency of stew. It thickly coated the back of the spoon and stayed there.

that puff pastry square is not extra, it's necessary

MonteCristo85 t1_iy9hbe8 wrote

It may be extra, but that puff pastry square sounds fabulous with soup.

You don’t toss it on noodles? Guess you don’t need too when you have that beautiful puffy pastry.
