I make my own cranberry sauce, but I mold it in cans. The nostalgic aspect to the shape appeals to me.

epi_glowworm t1_ixoraag wrote

Any specific can shape? Like in re: to ridges.

3

JohnnyGFX t1_ixou46x wrote

The one in the pic is pretty classic. Has to have some ridges, I think.

4

epi_glowworm t1_ixoxn2n wrote

I like your style. I shall honor it by copying it for next Thanksgiving.

Flyguy710 t1_ixnd70j wrote

My family refused to eat mashed up canned cranberry sauce... They prefer slices only. Need to be able to see the ribs of the can or else its no good.

TheDiceMan2 t1_ixogkda wrote

oddly this seems to be a quirk that many people share. my aunt and cousins are the same way. if you ruin the perfect loaf, you’re fucked

26

surly_sasquatch t1_ixopfyr wrote

If you're going to mash it up, you might as well heat it up and serve it as an actual sauce. The chunks are not appealing.

9

JellyfishMob t1_ixort7n wrote

That’s exactly how I am about it. I will eat it mashed but the preferred form is cylindrical, with defined ridges!

hedleyazg t1_ixpr3k6 wrote

Nothin' like a good slice of cranberry sauce log.

1

Pokerhobo t1_ixndea7 wrote

I prefer the flavor, gelatin and smooth texture of the canned version

dsellmusic t1_ixo2fg0 wrote

I’m the same way. My wife got so mad I preferred the van version over her home made one! 😂

Nutsnboldt t1_ixnxbmd wrote

Ocean Spray jellied in a can, no chunks is the greatest thing!

LunaMercer17 t1_ixnm7fq wrote

Just love the garnish on the canned jellied Cranberry sauce.

10

dudedisguisedasadude t1_ixo5b5h wrote

The plating of the canned one is all wrong. You gotta lay it horizontal and slice it along the ribs into slices and leave about half unsliced. Put the rosemary garnish in that half so it looks good and is easy to serve yourself a slice or two. Canned is usually better that most home made sauces I have had because the texture just can't really be replicated for me. Canned cranberry sauce with gravy and stuffing is peak Thanksgiving aside from the turkey AND ham.

Warp-n-weft t1_ixn7r51 wrote

As the person in my family that has the deepest feels about cranberry sauce - I have considered setting jelly in a can so that the people who want grocery store jelly can have their nostalgic can shaped lump.

What is that monstrosity on the left?? (Not the cute dog, the thing that looks like a candle with a sprig of rosemary)

I still don't know how that cranberry jello in a can ever became commonplace.

I love cranberries, but that stuff has the funkiest consistency and flavor that I can't get over.

2

trusty20 t1_ixogtgd wrote

It's from an era that believed deeply that anything could and should be made into jello form, for every meal

Cranberry sauce is tasty... but I guess I'm low-class. I prefer the cranberry jelly from the can over the homemade chunky cranberry sauce with nuts.

Who else prefers the cheap, no-work version of cranberry sauce from a can?

2

Slick37c t1_ixqak4p wrote

That'd be me for sure. I think it's nostalgia but I definitely really like it.

2

Mk1Racer25 t1_ixpu73u wrote

Nothing quite says "white trash" like canned cranberry sauce. Extra points if you have green bean casserole made with canned green beans and cream of mushroom soup. And with those two, a bowl of Stovetop stuffing can't be far behind

ritasuebarnett t1_ixomyn4 wrote

Cranberry is my favorite side, in all it's forms

jaky_shadows t1_ixp2m8x wrote

So I’ve made my own cranberry sauce quite a few times.. whatever reason the ocean spray can stuff just hits different.

Gimme the one on the left!!! Seriously! I hate homemade cranberry sauce.

1

Tribalbob t1_ixprkpn wrote

Making cranberry sauce is so stupidly easy, I don't understand why people don't do it. So much better than canned.

I want to see the real cranberry sauce. No, the real cranberry sauce. Perfection.

1

Sun_Beams t1_ixmml4s wrote

I was trying to work out why this had two tags instead of one. Even if it's from a can, heating it up and serving it would be [Homemade].

I'll leave this up for now as I get what you're trying to do here.
