Last time I called it that, I got chewed out because it had chicken in it. Apparently paella is a very specific dish

That´s a load of bullshit for whoever told you that, the traditional paella dish is made of chicken and rabbit. So you can tell that to whoever complains about chicken in paella. Also, thanks for giving a go to one of the dishes of my country. We have hundreds of ways of doing it, in my area we make them full fish and shellfish, and some people wouldn´t call that paella, so don´t listen to the haters. :D

That’s the thing about paella though isn’t it, it was made for labourers and farmers with whatever the hell they could get hold of.

Your country has given us delicious foods AND wine. Thank you for not being overly precious about what constitutes a "proper" paella.

Isn't paella valenciana (one of the most popular variations) with chicken and rabbit?

Yes, there are different regional varieties that range from chicken and rabbit to only shellfish.

"Real" Paella is not supposed to have any seafood in it at all.

I was under the impression there was no "real" paella, its one of those dishes that every household/neighborhood/city/region has their own variations of

That is definitely paella. Looks really tasty by the way. A little saffron would spice it up (that stuff is expensive though)

How much did you pay for it where you live? Here in Seattle you can pay everywhere from 20 bucks for a couple of grams to $200 an ounce.

Paella while is a dish, it's also the name of the pan you are cooking in. Therefore it is a paella in the picture. Maybe has some other dish in it but there is a paella in the pic..

Hey pal! This looks delicious to me! The rice looks perfectly cooked and I love the twist you made there by adding sausages. 💚

Buen provecho desde Madrid!
