For anyone curious a playa is a dry, vegetation-free, flat area at the lowest part of an undrained desert basin.

Also for anyone curious a hood is a flexible covering for the head and neck.

Consider you want to play a game with your friends, but you dont want to go outside. This is why the "Board Game" was invented. Typically a board is placed upon a table or the floor and the players will sit around it and follow some arbitrary rules until a winner is decided, or someone flips the board conceding.

Monopoly played as intended is fun. People's "house rules" are what ruin it.

xtossitallawayx t1_j9w7wqx wrote

I would love to hear more about Monopoly is "fun" when played by the rules. It is very easy to be almost out of the game after 1-2 bad rolls, but you still have to sit there for a half-hour while you slowly bleed out, having no way effective way to overcome the hole you are in. When you finally are broke, everyone else keeps playing while you cry in the corner.

Meanwhile, the "winner" (such as they are) has been in the lead for an hour and just needs to land on a few specific squares to actually win but because they don't, they just have to circle the board until someone else goes broke.

Look up "speed die". They use it in Monopoly competitions and it mostly fixes that problem

As an Arizonan, I have always associated playa with beach. It makes the slang usage seem really bizarre.

As someone who knows Spanish and is black... I've never seen either usage strange because they exist in different contexts and aren't actually pronounced similarly at all

You know how normally a joke about something absurd happening is best left unillustrated for the reader to imagine because you'd never be able to live up to the reputation of it in illustration or detailed description (see: the pasta incident)

HOLY SHIT IT'S WAY MORE ABSURD THAN ANYTHING THAT WAS IN MY HEAD.

Not sure why you're being downvoted as this is absolute truth. Whether its subverting our culture/ways of thinking through TikTok or straight up killing humans with hazardous plastics in toys/Fentanyl manufacturing they are an enemy.

pickles55 t1_j9uo2gv wrote

TikTok is no more manipulative or destructive than any other big social media app, most of which are based in the United States. These companies have made incredibly effective manipulation machines and they use them to advertise products because the real forces you're upset about are just the same motivation behind everything that succeeds under capitalism. It's all just rich people trying to turn workers against one another and give them a bunch of distractions so they don't organize for better working conditions. Social media is the 21st century bread and circuses, blaming China for that is not accurate

linuxknight t1_j9uqfd4 wrote

I disagree with respect to TikTok. While other Social Media have their faults, TikTok takes things to a different level. One of my favorite youtubers (Upper Exchelon) explains it best.

Specifically here and an older example here

I'm not sure how identifying bad actors in the world is racist but I appreciate how that card is easily played in scenarios people can't comprehend or appreciate.

GenuineSteak t1_j9u7f6j wrote

No, its because its a very broad generalization of China as a whole, if you said specifically the Chinese government or something I think thats relatively fine. Saying China as a whole perpetuates racism against normal Chinese people. Its pretty astounding how you dont see this could be racist. Its also because you say its subverting your ways of thinking when its just another culture. Its not like Chinas trying to brainwash you? Its also very hypocritical when the US has gone to other countries and bombed the shit out of civilians. Also most of the time a Chinese company produces something thats dog ass its because whoever asked them to make it wanted it as cheap as possible, if people asked for nice stuff they would get it, but thats not why companies go to China.

linuxknight t1_j9u8823 wrote

You're spot on, my thought process was in fact the corrupt government. I wont edit my original comment, as I appreciate you correcting my comment logic.

2

pickles55 t1_j9uojvu wrote

Labeling a country and everyone from there as evil is textbook racism. Not all Chinese people support everything their government does. That would be like saying America is a bad actor because they do regime change and beat up people when they protest police brutality. America does those things but you'd probably be offended if someone said you were evil because you're American

MT_Promises t1_j9uxrc0 wrote
