I was around five when I saw an episode of this at my aunt’s place on cable tv in the middle of the afternoon in the 70s. I somehow got it into my head that this was a sci fi soap opera played five days a week. Didn’t even know about Dark Shadows.

There certainly was. It wasn't super popular until the 80's but the first cable service began in 1948.

I had Manhattan cable in my apartment in the late 70’s. The box had a dial to select channels.
