This sums up Black Friday "sales" perfectly.

I was looking at a pair of headphones on BestBuy. It was refurbished for $89.99 and said $80 OFF. Then I noticed a little button that said "Or buy it new", so I clicked. The normal item was $89.99, but $20 OFF. I just laughed and closed the window. The whole sale season is a fuckin scam.

The price change must be in the 3rd decimal place.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you did. It’s one of the best deals you can ever get!

2

QueasyYogurt8065 t1_ixzoxkn wrote

I love how it's not even subtle about the "sale", they had to make it look like a 70% discount or something 💀💀

2

juicysox OP t1_ixzt6qr wrote

They were very confident that it was going to sell!!

2

dae_giovanni t1_ixzrj3c wrote

Metro, which is a Canadian grocery store. What happens is they get the coupons of all items listed as "special" automatically, and employees are supposed to throw away those without real discounts or even negative discounts.

I've seen things like "Special $5.99, used to be $4.99, instant rebate $-1.00".

It's their system which is junk. They print out stickers for every item listed in their fliers.

Duh, it’s called inflation.

“Was $49.99 in last week’s dollars; buy it with today’s dollars and save 10 percent!”

Reminds me of when I bought a PlayStation 3 many years ago.

Went to a mall with Walmart and Toys R Us both, so I decided to comparison shop.

Went to Walmart. Huge “PRICE ROLLBACK” sign. $399.98.

Went to Toys R Us. $399.99.

Assidental1 t1_iy0dcsq wrote

The whole x9.99 pricing is the dumbest shit ever.

1

juicysox OP t1_iy0ud78 wrote

I honestly don’t get it either

1

czs5056 t1_iy17l9g wrote

It's because dumb people see $8.99 and think it is $8 since it's the big number and first.

2

wskttn t1_iy15yzf wrote

With 9% inflation that’s 9% off!

1

Ayoayycee t1_iy16523 wrote

But it’s a brand new updated $49.99 😉

No way I'd pay the original price, but that discount is so good I would be tempted. How can they afford to slash the price like that?

Gnace1er t1_iy31rcl wrote

Considering that the new label tags cost them 0.01$ they are actually making an effort... Right?

1

Aiass t1_iy39bei wrote

Because the tag only lets you print two decimals. The real deal was on the third decimal! From 49.999 down to 49.992 !!!

1

zloykrolik t1_iy1wsuj wrote

This isn't really funny. Not now, or the dozens of other times the sale price is a couple of cents lower than the regular price.
