I don't agree but definitely in the top tier Christmas movie list. "Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where's the tylenol?!"

That was a bit of hyperbole, but yes tops for Christmas. Watch it every year.

Do all Americans live in houses as big as the Griswalds?

wallgreensin t1_ixxdr9u wrote

No. But this house looks old. Probably a pretty penny to purchase and restore.

fuschia_taco t1_ixxlb7b wrote

I live in an apartment that's in a building about the size of the Griswold's house!

My apartment is very tiny however. Micro home size without all the cool storage spots under the floorboards and built into the walls.

The further from a city you get the bigger the homes can be without bumping up costs as much.

Hi there! Where did you get the cut out? Did you make it?

iatealltheicecream OP t1_iy1xuxc wrote

Made it- ironically, we own a 6ft Clark cutout, that we ordered online a few years ago… but he isn’t waterproof and remained indoors peepin’ out the window.

Oh, the silent majesty of a winter's morn... the clean, cool chill of the holiday air... an asshole in his bathrobe, emptying a chemical toilet into my sewer...

Had an issue in august with our pipes. Thankfully they only dug up a grave size chunk of the yard. Roommate kept saying it looked like a grave so we decorated it like that for Halloween

iatealltheicecream OP t1_ixxde8x wrote

so sorry you went through pipe issues - can be a costly and messy disaster- love that you went with a theme too- gotta roll with it. :)

Wild_Albatross7534 t1_ixxefwb wrote

Well that had to really suck. I love people who can let some expletives fly and then just laugh at the shit (no pun intended) that they have ink front of them.

2

iatealltheicecream OP t1_ixxfurt wrote

crazy shit flowed into our house and from our mouths ;) but once we got past the “wtf” phase- we went with laughter to get past it. :)

When I was a kid, my dad would set a miniature Christmas town. Each year, he would set it up using my Hotwheels cars with different themes based on what was going on in the world. Like one year, during the OJ Simpson trial, he found a white Ford Bronco among my cars so set up a police chase. And other year, the town we lived in was undergoing a massive sewage system update, so our town had piles of dirt made from cocoa, construction vehicles, and stacks of pipes made from construction paper.

This is so cute! I wonder if he realized at the time that this little tradition would end up being core memories for you. :)

This looks familiar - we had to have our original cast iron sewer pipes replaced last year. The house is on a slab foundation, so the only options were to dig down through the flooring and foundation from the front of the house to the back, or 100 feet of tunnels under the house to remove/replace everything from underneath. We chose the second approach and had 6-8 foot piles of dirt around our house for a week. Totally worth it in the end, though.

_my_choice_ t1_ixxh8r0 wrote

LOL! Though the bill is not funny. Ours cost $9,000.

He’s cute, ain’t he? Only problem is, he’s got a little bit of Mississippi leg hound in him. If the mood catches him right, he’ll grab your leg, and just go to town. You don’t want him around if you’re wearing short pants if you know what I mean.

Clogged/cracked drain line? Tree roots? Overflowed septic tank?

What’s the dirty details OP?

1

iatealltheicecream OP t1_ixz2ymj wrote

Cracked sewer line. Had to replace line from the house- into the street. Was a total disaster. We had it scoped when we first moved in, but this 100 year old house likes to show us every now and then that she’s still got some tricks left up her sleeves.

2

redyellowblue5031 t1_ixz3955 wrote

Bummer! Sounds like a lot of work, glad you sound like you’re making the best of it. Those old houses are great but like you said can still get ya every once in a while.

Hopefully no more surprises anytime soon for you!
