You should probably call and make sure the balance is actually zeroed. There is likely some mechanism like a partial fraction of a cent or the balance wasn't "paid in full" to close it out. Like a special payment you need to initiate.

The problem is that interest accrues. So while the dollar amount was correct, it wasn't correct by the time the payment was attributed via some fraction of a cent. Which is why you need the special loan payoff amount

This is good advise. You never know what the idiots who built this system ignored. Call them to make sure it's done and fully paid off, get it in writing if you can. Congratulations btw, hopefully next time you have saved enough to pay it in full up front.
