1,2,3,4? Brilliant. That's the same combination I have on my luggage!

Except the homeowner is a sysadmin and the key opens a honeypot where the burglar gets livestreamed to law enforcement.

I work in tech, and I do a lot of remote support sessions on 3rd party systems. I have a strict policy of not asking for passwords for obvious security reasons. With the stuff I'm usually verifying, it also means logging into the same systems over and over again while I verify settings, gather logs, reset, power cycle, and re-check.

Today a customer literally gave me admin / admin as his username and PW for a critical system.

A) how can anyone be that dumb?

B) why would voluntarily blurt out your username/pw combo to anyone?

C) how can anyone be that dumb?

I know this house, its a decoy key with embedded RFID that causes the door to electrify the lock and shock you. Body turns up every couple months or so and the guy sells it to medical schools on the down low.

I came home from vacation and found someone had attempted to access my lockbox by using my 4 digit address as the number. It was an insult to my intelligence, but I wonder how many times that would work.

That's just the decoy key put there to ensure you don't bother looking for the equally dumbly placed key under the rock right next to the door.

A rug under the key?

WulfSudo t1_j6kz6ck wrote

Well no I thought the main thing here is it's a useless rug, the key being under it is just icing on the cake.

Atlhou t1_j6lpdzr wrote

The funny thing might be hiding a key under a see thru rug.

We put one over the tile floors at the bottom of our stairs when our kid was learning to climb them. It was a good idea.
