My great grandmother came from Poland and entered through Canada. We’ve tried to find the records but we think she might have been illegal since we can’t seem to find anything before her social security paperwork. There’s also the clusterfuck of spelling polish names and how her name was Americanized once she arrived. Unfortunately nobody really looked into it (or asked her) before she died and we found out her age was a few years off from what she had told us.

Swimming! Did he swim from the Mexican shores to the TX ones? Or was he dumped in the Gulf of Mexico in some way?

I’m pretty sure he swam across the Rio Grande but sadly, I never asked him.
