I always thought about this, and the kinda development issues it might have. Waterproofing the electronics is no big deal at all, but the motors and camera lenses are more difficult.

Biggest issue would actually be retaining control. Water fucks up any signals, so both the controller and the drone would need to switch to some kind of VHF mode seamlessly upon entering the water.

For decades I keep reading “this and that for rescue” when it comes to new tech. Yet those things are never present in rescue missions.

The main issue will be getting signal to surface. No remotes have the ability to cut through water.

Hmmm… and we’ve been having weird little craft pop up next to naval ships…

This possibility has always struck me as more plausible than aliens or whatever. Many of the encounters don’t involve the jets and are instead very close range, relatively slow moving uknown objects that appear and disappear seemingly randomly. Seems to fit the bill for a submersible drone.
