They were getting to a place where they weren't overpriced enough. Something had to be done.

Apple's profit is all times high and they're still increasing the price and holding employee bonuses while blaming COVID and the economy.

They did just start selling refurbished phones on their website so maybe that’s what they are aiming for. Since they maxed out the market they want to sell the same device twice. It’s genius!

They've been doing that forever haven't they?

I guess you’re right it’s been a while since they stared in 2017. For some reason I thought it was more recent. But nevertheless if they’ve saturated their new buyers market might as well push to resell the same device again.

Let's see... Pay more for features I don't even use or care about or keep using my older phone that does everything I want. The greed of these companies, which they use new "features" to justify is absurd. Swap out the battery when it degrades. Don't let these companies trick you into upgrading every year or two, it's going not going to end well if we allow them to convince us to do so.

And that's one of the things that bothers me so much, they purposefully "obsolete" gadgets that still do everything you want just to force you to give them more of your money. First up against the wall, I say.

Exactly! I switched from Android to iPhone with the 12 mini. It does everything well and Apple is going to support it with software updates for 6+ years. Only thing it might need is a battery in a couple more years. It would be nice to have USB C so my wife and I could share chargers and cords but it's not worth upgrading just for that.

I couldn't agree more. Standardization of connectors would be a huge move forward, but these companies do their best to keep us out of each others ecosystems as much as they can. It's extremely anti-consumer.

More money for the same basic phone. I have a iPhone 12 and don't see anything worth upgrading for. Probably just change out the battery and keep using it.

I bought an iPhone 12 for a relative a few years ago, that thing holds up great. One of the cheapest models with an OLED screen I think, which still looks absolutely stunning. They make such small incremental upgrades now which makes it hard to justify a newer model.

Have a family member upgrading from an old iPhone. Do you recommend getting the 12 or 12 Pro? How do you like the camera on your 12?

I'm not particularly a photography person but I'd say they are fine. They can be a bit blurred in low light, and maybe they are not as sharp as a 13 pro which I can compare them to.

wildswalker t1_jckgc2x wrote

Thank you. I've read comments on r/iphone that the 13 Pro and 14 Pro oversharpen photos - have you found this to be true?

1

Fat_Sow t1_jcnsyhf wrote

Not really, the 13 Pro hasn't had any settings changed and I'd say the photos look quite natural. The battery life is also amazing.

wildswalker t1_jcp0yok wrote

Thanks. I've definitely read the complaint about overly sharp photos for the 14 Pro and thought they may have also mentioned the 13 Pro. It probably only applies to the jpeg photos, which another user complained about. Shooting in RAW would of course avoid that.

Don't worry Apple is gonna get you latest iOS update that will add secret patch that reduces battery performance making you upgrade.

That's what I think. They say my 87% life is fine but it is bad. Might not even waste time with a battery swap.

Laughs in European. We have had price increases almost every single year. But I forgot, for USA media the rest of the world does not exist.

I have a 14 and its pretty good but the price has really made me start wondering if flagships are even worth it anymore or if I could just get by on a midrange android. I don't really game on the phone so maxed out specs I'm not sure I even need. I'm getting old so pretty much all heavy lifting is getting done on a tablet or a computer now.

Midwest__Misanthrope t1_jcl644k wrote

Don't even need to go midrange Android. You could just grab an older iPhone model and be fine too.

Apple is spreading these rumors now so by the time it's released people are already use to the the idea and aren't as upset.
