I'm going through a massive heart break and it's been hell of a ride once again. I'm old enough to know how to survive this and what to do to ease the pain, even a little, in coming weeks and months. But even then this is going to suck and hurt like hell, especially on days like these, when I miss her more than anything.

I'm not looking to distract myself because I know I need days like these to heal too. I need to cry and feel sad. So what I'm looking for are games that makes me to do exactly that. For example I just played Sayonara Wild Hearts and it made me cry. The ending reminded me of two important things I need to do to get through this.

So yeah, what are games that made you realize something important during hard times? Or taught a good life lesson? And while you're at it, I would also want to hear movies, series, songs, poems, quotes or whatever that taught you something important, made you feel something and hopefully in the end made you a little bit better person for that. Things you recommend does not have to be related only to broken heart, you can also tell your story and what helped you to make through it.

Personally I played WoW during my last “broken heart”. I joined an active guild with a bunch of people that I could chat with and made new friends.

Disco Elysium. I don't want to spoil the game but it hits really hard, especially for someone with experiences like you.

This War of Mine if you want to cry but not be reminded of your own issues.

Clannad. If you play thru the first main part and finish all the stories, you’ll move in to Clannad Afterstory. You’ll be ugly crying while trying to power thru that.

Senua’s Sacrifice is a good one for just a full on melancholic feel.

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through. Celeste seems like a good story to suit your mood.

I'd recommend taking a minute to consider why prolonging your sadness might not be the best option because you obviously won't be paying attention or enjoying the game you're playing.

I liked MMOs when I went thru that cause you can find people to quest and chat with and it has a very slow pace and you dont really have to pay attention. Elder scrolls online is a good one.

Nothing came to mind in terms of a game, but you said series as well, so I’ll throw something out.

It might not be what you’re after, but if you’re okay with the medium, there’s a show that’s set around young musicians. The MC has lost his mom (who kinda messed him up), and he’s in a total rut. He meets someone and they become friends and become performance partners for some events.

A lot of the show is about coming back to enjoy things that were (proverbially) lost after the death of his mom. I won’t spoil the ending in case you watch it, but the show is an absolute rollercoaster of emotions the whole time. You might leave with a lot of mixed emotions, but overall, healing, moving on, and internalizing lessons from people we meet are important themes in the show.

So if you’re looking to wallow in emotion for a little bit and get it all out, and if you’re okay with an animated show, then I’d check out Your Lie In April. It’s 22 episodes in total, so not a big commitment.

Might not be what you’re after, but you’ve gotten other recommendations too if you aren’t interested. Either way, whatever you’re going through, I wish you the best.

Peace and love

I might do this, I actually started to play wow again a while ago but I had to drop it when all the drama begun. I probably can't focus and commit to it right now, but maybe a little bit later I can again. Thanks!

Oh no, don't get me wrong. I'm not going to prolong my sadness. I've been hanging with my friends most of the time, I went to see Devin Townsend few days ago, I've been training kickboxing and crossfit and doing many things to lift my spirit. This thing is strictly for days like this sunday, when I'm feeling really sad and on days like these I really like to go all in. I know tomorrow will be better again because of this. It's just nice sometimes to let myself feel everything.

I've meant to watch clannad a few times. Maybe this time I'll really do it, thanks for reminding it exists. Also yeah, Senua is good, I played it when it came out.

Atelier Ryza or really any of the Atelier series. They are cozy, heartwarming, positive and really just fun to play. Not emotionally demanding or stressful, like a gaming warm blanket. If you like super cute JRPGs of course.

Sorry about your tough time.

Sounds cliche but it's true, time will heal. Hide yourself in any game and it will help push through time. I've always used open world games for this.

For any married folks that have been struggling I’d recommend playing It Takes Two with your significant other. Helped me and my spouse bond quite a bit

Lost Odyssey is a pretty deep game. The combat it pretty standard for a turn-based rpg. But some of the main characters are (not a spoiler) immortal, and they'll occasionally have a memory that triggers a reading section. Those are worth playing the game for, some of them are legit the best written things I've encountered in a videogame. Lot's of meditations on loss, impermanence, beauty, etc.
